Knights Bridge

Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

2012 vintage. From the only other winery in Knights Valley besides that Peter Michael endeavor. This Beckstoffer To-Kalon/To Kalon/Tokalon/ToKalon (pick your interpretation-seen 'em all) goes for a older-school, much leaner approach vs the decided, new school, über-concentrated style as far as this vineyard is concerned. Goes even leaner than the older, vineyard incorporated Mondavi Reserves from the 80's/90's (which I would rate in the middle ground). All the way to the left for the history buffs. Tremendous concentration but on the dry, dusty, dirty side vs the biggie extracted ripe style in vogue the last decade+. Instructive and elucidating. Twere I doing a Tokalon Vineyard retrospective/blowout dinner, this wine would be first. 9.6.23. — 3 years ago

Monticello Petit Manseng 2017

Harnessing a warm vintage and making a DRY p/m….skills. While being a touch austere, this mineral & round-acid driven vintage worked well with food, which is the ultimate test! Muted tropical note of apricot & star fruit sang softy like a Thursday night at the jazz bar. — 5 years ago

WOW! Was given to me by Michael Mondavi in 2001 or 2002 during a Tampa market visit! Been relocated about 10 times, including oversees and back, yet at 19 years of age, this wine still drinks great! #mondavi #tokalon #oldwinerocks @DLynn Proctor @Robert Mondavi — 7 years ago

Louis M. Martini

Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

For more than 75 years, the Martini family winemakers have crafted wines from Sonoma and Napa counties. Today, Michael Martini, 3rd generation carries on the tradition. 100% Cab, aged in French oak (75% new) for over 2 years. Tight concentrated fruit flavors, complex with a gentle smokiness. Flavors of blackberry and currants with an earthy character adding a network of spices. Tight tannins not ready to release, big finish, lingering to a tobacco ending. Needs way more time, but very nice. Tasting Sample. — 8 years ago

Colgin Cellars

Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

1994 vintage. Nice fill with a slightly shrunken and fully saturated cork. Durand helped plenty in the opening assist. Not decanted and tasted after 1.25 hours open. Hadn’t tasted since the early 2000’s. Definitely dropped all the baby fat. Toffee, coffee and chocolate covered cherries in the nose. Light medium body (thought it would be a touch bigger). Still plenty of focus but slightly less grip than desired. Can it match biggie shizz like Montelena, Dunn, Diamond Creek, BV GDL Reserve, Mondavi Reserve, Araujo, Peter Michael Les Pavots, Mayacamas, etc? No. Is it really really nice? Absolutely. Can hold another 5-6 years at this juncture before boarding the downhill bell curve train. 11.8.24. — 2 years ago

Generations Reserve Peter Mondavi Family Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Wow wow wow and I would say O-M-G as well. Top 3 wines of all time. Definitely does not drink Like a Bordeaux. More like a Cabernet.

And thank you Ted who gave us this bottle and recommended to decant it and throw in the fridge 1/2 hour.

You will not be disappointed even at a $65 price tag. Smoky with definite oak and black currents, it’s simply remarkable.... and even though it’s “alcoholy” from the nose to the finish, it is so complex and dry that it compliments a cab lovers palate!
