Cherry red. Strawberry, wild berry, violet. Raspberry, blueberry. Herbaceous. 2 hours. Deep and smooth. Quite high viscosity, full body. Rose. Spices. Slight sweet. Aromatic, Juicy. Still acidic ++. The 2020 Fleurie Chapelle des Bois has a little reduction on the nose, but there is good concentration here with wild strawberry and red cherry. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very pure and smooth. Touches of blood orange furnish the long and lively finish. Delicious. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2023) — 2 years ago
Medium plum-toned ruby in color, with aromas of strawberry, tart red cherry, banana, raspberry, and cranberry. Dry with medium-plus acidity and a medium body. Bright, balanced, and refreshing.

Bright ruby color. Aromas of black cherry, black currant and wet soil. The palate is full of black fruit, kirsch, black licorice and baking spices. Note of earthy dried mushrooms on the finish. Medium bodied and well balanced acidity. No sign of oak aging. Solid. Thanks for opening this one, Keith S! — 5 months ago
It’s always a resounding ‘YES’ for JL Chave!!
That includes this luscious and concentrated Syrah from Saint-Joseph AOC in the Northern Rhône of France.
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a benchmark and icon of the Rhône Valley – a family-run operation since 1481 – with an entire range of deliciousness through the Domaine Jean-Louis Chave and JL Chave Selection portfolios.
This wine is deep ruby, trending on purple. It has pronounced aromas and flavors of boysenberry, blueberry, black cherry, cassis, pomegranate, also violet, bacon, sanguine, saddle leather, pipe tobacco, clove, cigar, damp earth, and black peppercorn. Alcohol is high (14.5% ABV) with medium (+) fine-grained and well-integrated tannins, medium (+) acidity, a medium (+) body, and a long, elegant finish.
It has a rustic and savory character with robust dark fruit notes; it’s layered, complex, structured, and age-worthy, benefitting from decanting. Still, it’s tasting wonderfully now.
Cheers to JL Chave and treasures of the Rhône!! — 9 months ago

As close to perfect as possible. This 2016 vintage was dipped inn2024 with great pleasure. Beautiful fruits of cherry rounded by a nice tannin finish. The wine opened up and by the last sip the tannin complimented the cherry to a more oaky finish. Outstanding. On the occasion of welcoming Anna home! — 15 days ago
