Château Miraval

Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2024

This rosé is everywhere in Switzerland. I think it’s the 4th time I’ve had it. Got this bottle at the train station lol. Very concentrated. Strong acidity, strawberry and orange. Mouth watering finish with a touch of lavender and Provençal herbs. I can see why they like it so much here. Screams European summer (or après-ski on a sunny afternoon). Not fussy, but still elevated. — a year ago

Well, there has been a bit of storytelling behind that brand ...

@Daniel M Does Brad Pitt still having anything to do with it? The Swiss do like the “in” thing ;) Despite all that, it’s a solid rosé

Apparently yes but there is a legal battle over Angelina Jolie's stakes (which she sold to a company after their divorce). The Perrin family is still at the helm from a practical point of view though.

White Wine

This is a Harrington joint (rip). Still odd, and still very interesting. Blend of Malvasia, Greco do Tufo, and Moscato. Has an almost menthol nose and is slightly effervescent. For you natural wine people out there lol — 6 years ago

Full bodied with aromas of dark cherry and plum. Soft and ripe tannins. A mixture of Cab Sauvignon, Malbec and Carmenere leads to a unique blend that satisfies and will go with any steak or any other beef fat laden piece of meat..lol ..Give or a try.🍒🍷👍 — 8 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Madiran Tannat 1990

Rich dark and red fruits, still some evident firm, tannic structure (but I guess cellaring Madiran is like cellaring Dunn Howell Mountain, as life may not be long enough for them to shed their tannins? LOL), long, lingering firm finish, really quite fine!! — 4 years ago

Bernard Levet

Côte Rôtie Syrah 2021

This is the standard Côte Rôtie from Agnes Levet that’s a blend of different parcels. However, the philosophy and approach remain the same as “La Chavaroche” and “Les Journaries”. In the past, this bottling was known as “Améthyste” and only recently became more widely available in the US. “Widely” is a relative word, lol.

Opened about an hour prior to service. The 2021 pours a deep garnet/purple with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with a gorgeous bouquet all of the different varieties and colors of brambles your heart could possibly desire along with all of the seeds and stems, freshly cracked black pepper, dried herbs, some of the animale, purple flowers some hints of old wood and yes, perhaps a kiss of brettanomyces. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is forever long, drying and loaded with even more black pepper. This is giving me total 2014 vibes and if you liked that vintage in the Northern Rhône (as I did), you’re gonna absolutely love this. Drink now through 2036.

Excellent review. Thanks. I can’t however comprehend the term ”standard” for C-Rs, as the few (roughly a dozen) I’ve tried have been amazing.

@Martin Bergo I would never want to suggest “standard” to mean anything less than special though, merely stating such suggests there is something “non-standard” available, so I do get your point.

Fattoria dei Barbi (Colombini)

Vigna del Fiore Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Sangiovese 2006

A mature and peaking brunello. The tannins are fully integrated but the wine still has a nice structure but for not too long i think. Lots of herbs, leather, some tomato with reddish fruit...sometimes no choice but to open a nice italian when eating home made lasagna...if someone has found a good combo with a burgundy i am all ears lol... — 6 years ago

Marian's Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel

Love this. Rated it before but had to rate again as different vintage. So much of what a Lodi Zin should be. I wish it was available in Canada as it becomes ridiculously expensive when a trip to Lodi is added to the bottle cost. LOL. But seriously my favourite wine. Hands down! — 7 years ago
