A big and complex Syrah. Nose has intense cracked black peppercorn, Asian five spice, dark gravel, and pungent purple berry. Very full in the mouth, deeply savory, not a hell of a lot of fruit, long finish with a little alcoholic pepperiness peeking through. — 3 years ago
2010. $40 from city wine cellars. A little tannic and a little complex, with a little extra dryness compared to most Riojas. — 5 years ago
R 218.99 liq city
Little thin on front but black current on back.
Easy drinking. Buy more for under 20 — 5 years ago
Smells a little of those candied cigarettes or the baseball card stick back in the day..
Starts of as a little lighter style of Grenache, until the grape skins kick in - then the onslaught of basil, hay, licorice, with a unripe raspberry and some bitter Eastern European plum.
A bold sipper, in that there is much to talk about, especially while chewing on the acidity.
Wine from Madrid., a city I hope to see again..

Pepper city. Still a little young and fruit forward but very yummy. — 7 years ago
Man this is just so good. Forest floor, mushroom, a lot of deliciousness. An unmistakable Bordeaux. Had a rough day so thought would pop this open. This is one of these hidden little gems you discover. Like stumbling across the lost city of Atlantis. Too good to be true. — 7 years ago
A more than adequate Cabernet blend from Bolgheri drinking well at a young age. Cassis and a little mocha - dry tannins. Consumed in the famous old restaurant of Grassilli in the foodie city of Bologna. The walls covered with photos and etchings of famous opera singers. Great food, limited wine list. — 3 years ago

Smells of honeysuckle and ripe honeydew. Scream in the city, mouthwatering deliciousness. A perfect balance to dry and sweet. I can’t pick out if it’s a little sweet or a little dry but it’s wonderful for whatever it is. Thoroughly enjoying this one, you just have to be ready for the acidity. Drinking this reminds me of dating a Latina, sweet and fire and everything you desire. 🤣 — 4 years ago
From Bermann’s Lexington 1994 Thanksgiving on 11/26/20. Cloudy orange. Surprisingly good — not too sweet; almost like vermouth, very hazelnutty. Remainder on 11/27/20. Lots of sediment. Odd effect — feel a little unwell both rounds — 6 years ago
After a couple months of hiatus, the Friday City Club group was able to get back together (albeit a smaller, more spread out group) for an epic hosting by @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine, all served blind.
I had this same vintage a little over a year ago and my note is very similar. I got a distinct hay note aromatically that I really haven’t come across much. It wasn’t herbal, but slightly more green and unique. Honeysuckle and honeyed stone fruits on the nose as well. Big and commanding on the palate and slightly more savory...lemon oil, sea salt and almond croissant. I called this 8-10yr old Cali chard. — 6 years ago
In Lyon by the Rhône tonight at a quiet little restaurant after a full day walking all over the city. Earthy tones and dark fruit - blackberry, currant and through the nose with truffles. A very mild acidity into the finish. — 7 years ago
One of the bottles I provided for a co-hosting with Mark at the City Club wine group. Poured alongside Mark’s 2012 Oakville Winegrowers mag.
En mag. I was curious to see how this showed upon opening, and it unsurprisingly needed a quick decant to blow off some funk. As a blind pour, it’s tough to get to Mourvèdre heavy in profile, but it absolutely is what makes older CdP so magical. Beautiful faint ruby in the glass. A bit leathery and maybe even a small hint of brett, but then it evolved to show potpourri, spiced red and black fruits and garrique. In the glass, the expected savory notes come out with smoked meat, gaminess, black pepper baked-rhubarb, little bit of truffle. Elegant. Good acidity. Delicious finish! — 3 years ago
At el Cardenas in Mexico City. 1st wine from region coahilla . Lots of black fruit. Ripe. Full mouthfeel .Little spice. Very good. Would rate higher but stops too soon. — 5 years ago
Super super dry and amazing. Total river rock city at the beginning but with the wonderful little waxy ness later on. Reminds me of clynelish scotch a tiny bit which is a great thing. Highly recommended — 5 years ago
My daughter is making French Onion Soup and the recipe calls for vermouth, so I told her I thought I had some in the cellar. I bought this bottle on clearance at a favorite wine shop a few years ago and didn’t get to it as soon as I hoped... I tried a glass to make sure it was still good and it is so much better than good. It is a little thicker and slightly sweeter than many white vermouth I’ve had with a moderately spicy/herbal finish. Should be great in the onion soup too! — 6 years ago
I'm on the famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela, in the beautiful city of Salas, Northern Spain. Finished my second full day of walking (avg. 15 miles w).
Bought the bottle at the local market. Way too exhausted to discern specifics. But, it's a good wine and my feet hurt a little less the more of this I drink.
¡Cheers and Buen Camino! — 7 years ago
Such a unique little gem. Medium body, oily/silky mouthfeel with notes of strawberry/raspberry/black currant. Reminds me of a thinned out French Creme de Cassis or a complex Sweet Vermouth. Would go great with lamb, filet mignon. Will buy again. — 8 years ago
Norma Normington
I think this is an amazing Malbec blend - 58%, 23% Merlot, 10% Cab, 8% Syrah, and 1% Petit Verdot but… it needs to open up a little bit more; I can’t help being impatient- this wine has been 9 years for me to find it tucked away in a small city Arkansas liquor store. Initial impressions are - I love this but and the intricacy of the blend. On the nose - definitely blackberry and black currants. So smooth and perfectly balanced on the palette. I would definitely purchase this again but I’d look for an older bottle for sure! Oh, did I mention this bottle cost under $20? — 2 years ago
