The great Monopole from Buffet. In some years this is neck and neck with Clos des Chenes and Taillpieds. Gorgeous nose of dried and wet leaves, deep cherry, some oolong tea, Really compelling fruit on the nose. Such clear cherry, cherry bubblegum which is so typical of Rougeotte and stunning florals. Nose is so layered and complex. Gorgeous. What a palate. That classic chord progression again if sour/mid-season and late season cherry along with unreal sweetness. The sour-sweet cherry combo in 23 is the Buffet signature. Really well worked velvety tannins and exceptional freshness and acidity. Terrific inner mouth aromas and such purity. Extremely complex already and such suave texture despite there being girth and structure as is par for the course of Rougeotte. This needs to open but I think once it does it will be equal to or surpass the Champans. Let’s see. The nose now is more feral, but sweet feral. Big cherry but the chord effect and a bit of a maceration effect. Then that Rougeotte Hubba Bubba thing. Wow this is so good. So shockingly intense like you stuck a fork in an outlet. This is better than the Champans. This has gotten so suave and explosive now. Unreal texture and sweetness plus the finish and attack just explode onto onto the palate. Nose is feral today in the best way possible. Gorgeous, sensual minerals and earth .Wow the fruit is insane. So sweet, still explosive and such insane acidity and length. Just stunning. — a year ago

2018 Nice Sauvignon. $21 @ Spec's — 7 years ago
Insanity on the nose. Just bonkers. Sickness. Huge spice. Huge I mean huge spice. Also super mineral and very pure. Confectionary cotton candy like aromas and tree bark. Also tea. Maybe hoisin as well. Mindblowing. Big palate and immense power but incredibly elegant. It has Grand Cru grip and intensity and it is considered the best wine at the estate. Better than Clos des Chenes. It is insanely powerful and stacked to the brim with bright fruit and mineral that has sap, and really stains the palate. I think in 2 hours this will be insane. It’s changing every minute. What a wine. — 8 years ago
Wow. This is one hell of a Taillepieds. Nose is deep, dark black cherry fruit with twizzler, mid season cherry with pitch perfect clarity. Taillepieds always brings the drama and this goes to 11. Dark roses, Dried and fresh. So complex and so darn dramatic, Gorgeous roundness to the nose. Just insane. 9.8 nose. Some wood spice, but more like shavings from 7th grade woodshop. Wow. That palate is just insane. It’s got the cherry fruit, sour, dark, mid season, dark red all on a chord progression and all at the same time. Cherry fruit, everything, everywhere, all at once. Unreal internal aromatic and it has a decadence but outlined by this tart cherry fruit that circles opulent black cherry fruit. Just stunning. More open than the Clos des Chenes. A genius wine. Equal to CDC in 2023. Wow this nose goes hard as air gets into it. My god this is hedonistic but also fresh and energetic like 2008 or 1996 but with the fruit of 2019. This is absolutely a showstopper. Gorgeous tannins. So well crafted. The purity is the star here as is the transparency. The nose goes hard after an hour. It’s hard to describe as it’s got a lot of “non wine” aroma. 9.8 nose. Heavenly. Super sweet and silky now. Gorgeous fruit and opulence. What a finish. Unreal blackberry and black cherry inner mouth aromas an hour in. So structured and young but just incredible. After a day this is just stunning. Deep, dramatic and juicy. Wonderful structure and sexy black cherry fruit. Silky as silky can be. — a year ago
Very nice 2017. Classic clos de chenes. Fruit is lively, but not overbearing — 4 years ago
Fire for the price and such a cool label I love it. A spicy wine fosho — 6 years ago
Light bodied for a St. Estephe, initially, though it fleshed out a bit the next day. Day 1: decidedly red fruited with red plum, raspberry, autumn leaves, dried herbs, graphite. Day 2: fruit had darkened with blackberry, black plum, currant, tarragon, still graphite, dusty tannins, freshly-turned soil, autumn leaves. — 8 years ago

@delectable: this is the Côtes du Rhône Villages, cuvée ‘Les Chenes’. — a year ago
Gorgeous nose. Unreal vivid cherry. Sawdust. Loads of stones and rocks. Super pure and so nimble. Loads of spice and flowers. Wow what a palate. Super elegant but has that rustic Monthelie charm. Also a lovely meatiness on the nose is developing with air. Needs air but man is this meaty, floral, sweet and super deep. Like a baby Clos Des Chenes which it abuts. Terrific energy and transparency. Big tannins need air to calm down. With air this is getting so elegant and it’s just teeming with energy! Wow Florent has killed 21! Overnight this gained in body and sweetness but still had some unresolved structure but man that finesse is there. — 2 years ago
Been a few years and this is drinking so well now but no rush at all. Nose is sour cherry and mid season cherry and lovely earthy minerals. Very fragrant and a hint of confection. Palate is sleek and juicy and very refined. It is a bit short but air will lengthen it I think. Juicy and elegant airy lovely purity and balance. Awesome depth and grainy, elegant tannins. Needs air to go higher. Let’s see what happens.
9.4 to 9.5 overnight. Juicy and elegant and so finessed. — 4 years ago
The second wine of Chateau Pavie Macquin. Popped and poured, this needed at least 90 minutes to even begin to open up. In the glass, dark ruby with a nearly opaque core. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, medium intensity with dark cherries, some purple flowers and freshly tilled earth. On the palate, dark cherries, plums, tobacco, and earth. Medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Long and satisfying finish. Drink now with patience or hold for the next 10 years, easy. — 5 years ago
Red cherry, blackberry, blurberry on the nose with immediate earthy and spices. Didn’t pick floral aromas. Beautiful on the palate with tartness followed by mid-palate tannins and long finish with earth, bacon, leather, thyme, rosemary and peppery finish. This was fun! Well balanced and serious wine. Decanted for 2.5 hrs and it was still opening up in the glass. — 6 years ago
