It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a tasty one from California.
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. A very pretty color.
Fruity nose with blueberries, plums, currants, light cedar, vanilla, light earth, licorice, black pepper, spices and chocolates.
Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black cherries, sweet strawberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, coffee, dark chocolates, light earth and peppercorn.
Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend. Drinking very nicely now, and will continue in the next 5 years.
This 6 year old is showing nice complexity and balance, with a very enjoyable mouthfeel.
Good right out of the bottle, but gets more complex as it opens up. I let it decant for 2 hours.
A good quality wine. Delicious, interesting and engaging.
Good by itself or with food. I paired it with meats, cheeses and light appetizers. Was really nice with the Italian salami.
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Grapes are grown in Napa County and Sonoma County.

Can we give this a high five? It’s supple and also muscular like a power yogi who doesn’t need to end their sessions with an om. Ripe honey (probably not a thing but I feel it), and pickled golden delicious apple skins (also not a thing but whatevs) and goodness it is strong but smooth. It coats the mouth with a a slight kick. To celebrate 15,000 followers on Vivino, i had to open something special.
Inky in color with a short reddish rim.
Strong nose of blackberries, black plums, cedar, light earth, licorice, vanilla, eucalyptus, chocolates, alcohol, herbs, coffee, spices and black pepper.
Full bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate and extremely fruity with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, figs, raisins, vanilla, cedar, cola, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, spices, alcohol, peppercorn and coffee.
Long finished with fine grained tannins and cherries.
This is just too delicious. What a great red from Napa Valley. An excellent Bordeaux blend.
Rich, dense, opulent, spicy, bold and elegant. Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Powerful and not for the timid.
Loved the nose and smelled on it for a while.
Although this is so tasty now, it is a sin to open it this young, as it has so much more potential. Will age nicely in the next 5 to 15 years.
The only other wine that I gave such a high score, at this young age, was the Penfolds Grange. I would love to try the two together at the same time. That would be very interesting.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. I gave it 6 hours in a decanter, and checked it periodically. Tannins come in after 6 hours, so be patient.
Good by itself or with food. A fabulous wine to share with friends and talk about.
I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

Active, perfect yellow amber pushing orange hard. Big bubbled beige-yellow head that dropped expectedly quick, with so much action. Petri-dish lacing with cytoplasm graffiti. Huge pineapple nose of fresh-cut ripe fruit! Grapefruit tattoo, but little else. General lemon creaminess; a memo from mandarin. Pineapple rum entry with caramel and vanilla, baked apple, brandy-pear, classy touch of black pepper, allspice, ginseng, soft ginger slices, dried orange peel, anise, and lime. Heady and thick, cut, wiry, and sinewy, but overall, a calculated, choreographed, disciplined display of restrained power, lithe and evocative, with a smooth finish.

Domaine Drouchin, Dundee Hills Pinot. Red garnet color. Dark tart cherry nose bursts from the glass; with other scents of wet forest floor and vanilla. Smokey and floral notes linger. A lovely smooth dark cherry taste and tartness with cedar and pine notes. Tea, minerals and vanilla-strawberry give a nice medium acidic finish. Pale gold haze with white gold accent. Devilish horned sheet lacing reveals head-butt bunnies and robot parts; snow white and merengue. Grapefruit-clementine nose of carrot sweetness and cut yellow beet teases out almond candy, persimmon, kiwi and green banana. Palate is less tropical, with icy citrus and metallic energy, but texturally creamy; candied sage, Indian gum, Mexican wedding cookie flashbacks, white grapefruit, gooseberry, lime pith and white pomegranate seed nodules. Hints at white pepper in orange pith. I like it. Less “juicy” than suggested, but high quality offering worth the rotation. Something to shake a stick at!

Couldn’t wait to break open from the cellar a few years early. Color - dark purple and red hues. Blueberry cherry, perfume and a stewed meat funk burst on the nose lingering with scents of leather, mint and chocolate. A big bold and smooth taste leaving a strong impression and wanting more. As it sits on the pallet the rich and creamy flavors come forward tasting of black cherry and chocolate-vanilla. A long finish of tar, hints of grapefruit, cinnamon and tannins still very much present. A beautiful wine that could age another 10 year, but will definitely try again in a few years! — 12 hours ago

Cherry, raspberry, strawberry in nose, cherry, herb and candied red fruit flavors with a hint of plum, seed tannin in finish with rounded mouthfeel and some skin astringency. Rosy grapefruit opacity, hi speed blender crowned, textured like a coat of paint. Oily lacing of connect-the-dots. Awesome jungle humidity suggesting banana and pineapple, sweet grapefruit and tangerine, coconut, marigold, candied lemon, honeycomb and jackfruit. Incredible entry of creamy banana and guava, lemon zest, with tiny glimpses of strawberry, cherry and raspberries, a dragonfruit texture, lemongrass sorbet, tangerine pulp, yellow mango, and finally miracle fruit transmogrification to balance the red and white with the vestiges of sweet ginger, tartaric biscuit, and coconut oil. Complex, evasive, evocative, hazy-creamy, razzy, racy and ethereal. One of the best IPAs I have had in 2020! Give these guys a trophy, and no, everyone does not get one!

11/14/20 - Saturday night and winter is slowly but surely making its way into our lives. After finishing the fall preperation of raking and cleaning the homestead I have made my way into the house to open the 2016 Substance Cs Powerline Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon by Charles Smith.
On the nose there are beautiful expressions of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, mint, licorice, sage and herbal notes.
On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, green bell pepper, black pepper, tobacco, mint, toasted oak and vanilla.
