Macchiona Emilia Barbera Bonarda 2005

Early funk that need a few minutes to blow off but the dried flower notes are off the charts. Followed but some earthy tones on the palate, it’s just a real joy to pop and pour. — 2 days ago

Delicious. Smells like jam but is energetic with some good zip. Really nice. — 6 months ago

Emilia-Romagna Dolce Frizzante Malvasia 2017

Lovely Malvasia, mineral, classy and with a good character that enhances the pleasure of the drinkability ! Enjoyed with a panettone — 7 months ago

Red Blend 2016

Been looking forward to trying this Chilean project from the people at La Stoppa for some time; happy to report that despite being a bit brusk, this vino tinto delivers on the combination of high toned density of La Stoppa rossos and smokiness of old vine pais. — 9 months ago

Ageno Malvasia di Candia Blend 2011

Dried orange peel, peach skin, honey, sage, thyme, mushrooms, intense umami. High acid/high tannin. Drinking at peak right now, but this can make it another 10 years easily. — a month ago

Macchiona Dieciannidopo Emilia Red Blend 2002

Very nice Italian red blend - never had this before. Deep red fruit with duty tannins in a very nice way. Even with the age this holds together very well. Excellent acid on the finish - and quite tasty with a prime dry aged bone in ribeye. — 6 months ago

Love this wine. Cherry, dark fruit a little peppery with some funk. — 2 months ago

Barbera della Stoppa 2009

If you know, you know. I put this in the “natty bruiser” category - high alcohol, huge extract, and gobs of Brett and VA. Still totally enjoyable with the right food. La Stoppa’s back vintage Barberas are great deals (this was a touch over $30 when purchased 2 years ago), but for my money I’ll be reaching for their Trebbiolo which dials everything back while still having similar fruit profile and deliciousness. — 4 months ago

I thought their Trebbiolo an excellent wine. Just enough funk and VA to keep things interesting.

Viña El Pison La Rioja Alavesa Tempranillo 2015

— 8 months ago
