20251117 Torre Antico Barbaresco with Wakano
A very nice, smooth, full body wine from the area near Neive.
Elegant, some rhubarb with taste of chocolate and leather.
Superb!

On the nose the red fruits are a bit shy and overshadowed by the earthy and savory notes of black tea leaf, tobacco, tar, balsamic, and licorice. The flavor is much more balanced with sweet cherry leading the way. Medium body. Lively and delicate on the palate. Mellow dry tannins.

The 2018 Barbaresco Bordini is a dark, full-bodied wine that expresses the natural intensity of this sector in Neive. Readers will find a bold, structured Barbaresco endowed with serious depth. Black cherry, sage, menthol, licorice, mocha and spice are all kicked up in a Barbaresco that balances energy with size. The 2018 is one of the best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. This is Garagiste’s private label. I’m guessing the producer is Icardi because that’s usually their go-to for Barbaresco and Barolo, but I can’t be sure. In any event, this is terrific wine and at its peak, in my view. Nose is classic with rose petals, beautiful dried cherry, mineral-flecked gravel, and some tertiary old library scents making an appearance. Soft, long, and balanced in the mouth. Really fine. Strangely, zero sediment. — 4 months ago

Approximately 50/50 Nero d’Avola and Perricone which is a beautiful blend! High in acidity, quite tannic and plenty of red fruit. Also a “rustic” touch. Everything is still a bit on its own but after some additional cellartime this wine should be stellar! — 4 years ago

Rivertti Massimo Viarivetti22 Rosato Langhe DOC 2020: Light. Bright. Balanced. Youthful flavors of strawberry, watermelon, cranberry & rhubarb. Short dry, yet refreshing finish. All in all, a beautifully-crafted, 100% Pinot Noir rosé from Piemonte and a perfect pairing for poolsides and summer days! Cheers🍷 — 5 years ago

Opened about five hours prior to service. After a small pour to check color and condition, I found the wine to be a bit grumpy. Some might even believe this could be DOA but the color was good and structurally, the wine was in good shape. So, into the decanter it went. By dinner, the wine had stretched its legs and all was right with the world. The 1976 Barolo annata by Guido Giri pours a slightly garnet with an orange rim; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes resembling Christmas fruitcake; spiced cranberry and pomegranate with dried roses, truffles, cedar, saussison, blood orange pith, dried green herbs and dry dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+ and resplendent tart fruit! What a resurrection! Drink now with an extended decant. — 2 months ago
