Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

3rd vintage from the Kronos vineyard.

Decant for sediment(decent chunky sediment) and pour. A beautiful medium ruby red color with bricking. On the nose: Captivating notes of sweet red fruit, forest floor, floral, menthol, cigar, charcuterie. Taste: silky, layered, still alive and delicious wine with dried blueberry/cherry, damp earth, leather, loamy soil, minerals, and a licorice espresso medium plus dry finish. YUM! What a treat to drink tonight.

Chappellet

Signature Donn Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1984

This bottle of the 1984 “Signature” was opened and Audouzed about an hour prior to service. It was then enjoyed over the course of three hours. The wine pours a deep garnet color with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and was initially tightly wound but eventually opened up to reveal sensational notes of black currants, blackberries, tobacco, mixed herbs, inorganic earth and fine baking spices. In the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (still!) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A sensational, classic, evergreen Napa Cabernet Sauvignon made by the legend herself, the one and only Cathy Corison. Drink now with some air or short decant. However, well stored examples will drink well through 2044. — 6 months ago

1hr+ decant. Wine really changed through the course of the night. Went from floral to port to tannic. Started out nice then evolved to complex then to strange and then went downhill. I’d drink soon and be careful of decanting too long. I was at 94 and then dropped to 91, so 92.5 and rounding up :) — 5 years ago

St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

In 375. Utterly delicious. I would likely not place this in Napa Valley if it were served blind. Very classified growth Bordeaux like. Cassis, a little herbal, gravel. So balanced and nice. On the palate, intense but with great acidity and zero heaviness. Nice to see this on a wine list (which is great here: an embarrassment of riches of well chosen wines (we’re at l’Albatross Brasserie in Cleveland)) — a month ago

Helios Sunbasket Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2016

This is a really good Cabernet Sauvignon right? Wrong, it’s supposed to be a Cabernet Franc. Nice integrated tannins and dark fruit. I might score it higher if it had some CF characteristics. — 5 months ago

Helen Keplinger makes Kerr. Helen in my mind,!is the best female winemaker since Cathy Corison.

Silver Eagle is one of my Pinot Vineyards in Napa/Sonoma.

Ripe, lush; coral & somewhat candied blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, plum, strawberries & blueberry heaven. Dark spice w/ , grilled meats, great dark, red & blue coral, balance for days.

Montepeloso

Gabbro Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

This is what every Cabernet Sauvignon should taste like. Despite being from Italy instead of California, this Cabernet has the richness of a Corison or other top Cabernet Sauvignon, but for less money. Deep intense stewed fruit to start with plum and blackberry, rich earthiness, chocolate and tobacco, then perfect tannins to finish. And aged just the right amount now to smooth out the tannins. Buy some if you can find it. At $67.50, this Cabernet Sauvignon was an extraordinary value. — 3 years ago

Acappella St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

This is the 2018 Acappella Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Corison Winery in St. Helena, California.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, spice, black pepper, pencil shavings and earth.

On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, spice, mint, black pepper, cedar and earth.

This is a full bodied wine with a smooth supple mouthfeel medium + acidity and a medium + fine mouthcoating tannins and leaves you with a long dark fruit crushed stone finish. The weekend looks to be very nice and wish you all good health. Please stay safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
