Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir 2003

Wow! If you like wine with lots of minerality, this wine is it. Beautiful, dark color, deep stone fruits and perfect tannins. A wonderful WS wine, with Chilean sea bass, or on its own. — 5 years ago

Chateau St. Jean

Cinq Cépages Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 1996

Wine Spectator Wine of the Year from my memory so I bought a case....last bottle and frankly it’s darn good! Good focus even with 5 grapes and nice Bordeaux nose...only know upon sipping from higher alcohol and intense fruit/acid without the clumsiness. I’ll give WS some credit here as 96 sleeper wine of the year! — 6 years ago

Happy Heavenly Birthday Sofia! Love & Miss You Like Air! 😇 All Souls Day as well.

Williams Selyem if not her favorite producer, one of her top two.

I don’t believe I have opened a bad bottle of this producer, not even corked. I guess it’s because I wait ten yrs or longer to open. These shine later in their evolution.

Nose of; red & slightly candied florals, strawberries, dark cherries blackberries, raspberries and haunting blueberries. Lightly grilled meats, cola, sandalwood, baking spices and very soft herbaceous notes.

This in typical WS fashion shows ripe & lush; slightly sour, dark cherries, blackberries, plum, poached strawberries, raspberries, pomegranate and circling blueberries. Excellent mid, dark spices, clove, some nutmeg, cinnamon & vanillin, light dryish tobacco, lightly grilled, smoked meats, dry crushed rocks, limestone marl, dry river stone, underbrush, mix of some fresh but mostly dry herbs, eucalyptus/mint, fresh to withering dark, red flowers framed in liquid violets, near perfect acidity with a well balanced, nicely structured, good tensioned finish that lasts nearly two-minutes and lands on spice & dry earthiness.

Vista Verde Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

2008 vintage. Decanted for an hour before tasting. Didn't even know WS was in the Central Coast game in this area at this time period. Beyond decent earthiness. Light-medium body. Hint of menthol. Could successfully stroll out and about distinctively for another 3-4 years. — 3 years ago

2011 is light, aeromatic with a hint of Willamette volcanic soil. Definitely has deeper character as it opens up. Very good vintage! (WS 94) — 7 years ago

Calegari Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

I get it why cellaring the WS wines much longer will result in a more complex wine. We buy their wines every year but have not been able to cellar them for 10 years + and we enjoy them now.
Paired perfectly well with grilled salmon and a salad.

La Rioja Alta

Reserva Viña Ardanza Rioja Tempranillo Garnacha 2017

Mo
9.2

WS: 93. Baked cherry, raspberry ganache and warm fig flavors are ripe and expressive, with a pleasing counterpoint and added detail from rich notes of loamy earth and leather, plus accents of bay leaf, vanilla and red licorice. There's a supple generosity on the palate, trimmed nicely by fine-grained tannins and a tang of orange peel acidity. Tempranillo and Garnacha. Drink now through 2032. 35,000 cases made, 9,000 cases imported.

Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

I think the WS winemaking style seems to render many of their single vineyard wines similar to one another and this one followed that pattern. Good, but not great, and lacking some of the characteristics I’ve come to enjoy from Hirsch vineyard wines. — 7 years ago
