Côte Sainte-Epine by Mikael Desestret St. Joseph Syrah 2016

Lyle Fass
9.4

Gorgeous and deep nose. Cassis, some wood, sappy red berries, smoke, mineral, granite. Needs an hour I’d say. Will track.

Palate is so so 16. Clean, fresh, refined and ripe. Loads of red berry fruit, so juicy, concentrated and pure. Lovely dusty tannins. Very elegant. Long and terrific freshness. Still young and this note is only from 10 minutes open but beautiful wine. Terrific structure as is airs out.

François de Tournon Saint-Joseph Syrah 2014

Deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, floral and meaty spice. On the palate flavors of raspberry, currant and sweet plums with smoky oak, rustic pepper spice and mineral with good acidity balance. Soft fine tannins, long finish ending with clean fruit and mineral ending. Will do well in cellar. — 17 days ago

Chapoutier hit it out of the park in 2011. The mordoree bottling and this are best in class. — 3 days ago

You better drink this wine vintage if you have it - while opening it was very fresh and went down like water in the desert / tannins were so refined with exceptional length but at the end this amazing wine was was shutting down - I like it when the opposite is the case were the wine is brilliantly open reflecting subtle and evolving nuisances and creating interesting complexities - so an amazing burg at first but went bizarrely meek — 4 days ago

Les Granits Blanc Saint-Joseph Marsanne Roussanne 2016

Very nice wine on the attack with crushed stone and acidity...goes better with food as the bitterness in the finale needs to be tamed with food — 12 days ago

Beaujolais Nouveau Gamay 2019

Nose has cut cherry, crushed blackberry and (faint) banana.

Palate has black cherry, red currant, ripe blackberry and medium tannins.

This is certainly an oddity of the Nouveau style, some weight and complexity to the palate, considerable color extraction shows a very dark ruby color in the glass. Blindly tasting, I might not guess it is what it is... 2019 looks to be a decent vintage for Drouhin.

This may be the best Nouveau I can recall in many years of tasting, wow!
