Evolving beautifully and likely not at its peak yet, this wine was gorgeous with cherry and cranberry compote flavors touched with cedar and dried herbs. Dense Ruby with a Crimson rim. Aromas of red and black berries, chocolate, and smoked meat. Full bodied and muscular. From a single vineyard in McLaren Vale which was planted 124 years ago. Silky tannins. A great red on a cold night in Winter. Love the old fashioned label which probably hasn’t changed in 100 years showing the two Kay Brothers. Hope to have the patience to drink the last bottle in say 2028 to 2030. — 2 months ago

Unscrew and pour. My kind of wine. Intense nose of melon, lime, candied kumquat and a cotton candy affect. On the palate: stunning acidity, grapefruit, pith, soft oiliness, and loveky density. “The 2014 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard is a total knock-out. Dark, rich and explosive, the 2014 possesses magnificent depth and pedigree to burn. The flavors are dense, sweet and wonderfully nuanced throughout. A wine of extraordinary, almost Nebbiolo-like aromatic intensity and firm tannin, the Hirsch is going to need at least a few years to unwind, but it is very clearly a special wine. Hints of rose petal, mint and sweet red berry linger on the long, enticing finish. My tasting at Failla was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Sonoma earlier this year. Ehren Jordan's 2014s are superb across the board. The wines are made in a mid-weight style that balances forward fruit with the aromatics and phenolics that these cooler sites tend to confer on their own...
