Precise. Edges of soft lemon. Slate, melon. A slightly bitter not on the finish. Very harmonious — 19 days ago

Circa J.L. Chave Sélection Saint-Joseph Marsanne Roussanne 2019

Thick texture and lots of dry extract. Papaya like ripeness. Vanilla, citrus, cream and spice. A lot to like here, some real complexity, though I wonder whether the grapes were picked a few days past perfection; very honeyed with not quite enough bite for my palate. — a month ago

Chapelle des Bois Fleurie Gamay 2020

Dynamite fleurie. Sappy red fruits, beautiful floral nose - medium + acidity to back it up. Not Bretty, pop and pour wine wits great sense of place. Fleurie in spades — 20 days ago

Hermitage White Rhone Blend 2003

Tasted blind. Medium to dark gold. Nice weight. Old/leesy nose with notes of apricot, bruised apple, pineapple, apple cider. Muted acidity at first. But with 6 hours of air the zing of acidity powers up. I'm in the "it's not chardonnay" camp. After going through a mental list of "what it's not" I arrive at a guess of 95 Chave Blanc. This got better through the day. Surprisingly good for the hot vintage. — a month ago

@Mike Saviage A much better experience than I recently had with the Hermitage of that vintage.

J.L. Chave Sélection Hermitage Blanche Marsanne Roussanne 2018

Fantastic Hermitage from Chave’s negociant business, essentially made with the fruit that doesn't end up in the 'Domaine' Hermitage Blanc (the $300 one). Blend of Marsanne and Roussanne primarily sourced from the Maison Blanche, a lieu-dit at the top of the Hermitage hill, as well as some fruit from l’Ermite and Peleàt. Fermented and aged in barriques for 18-24 months. Beautiful nose. White fruit, exotic, floral notes. Full-bodied, honeyed, rich. Great texture. Extraordinary — 18 days ago

Ermitage Cuvée Cathelin Hermitage Syrah 1995

Tasted blind. Bright purplish tawny color, mostly translucent. Amazing aroma. Sweet nose with notes of rich dark fruit, smoked meats, and some bacon fat. Great richness in the mouth, like velvet. The nose though is amazing and I keep a glass of this by my side all day to keep going back to. To me it seems like this is a super rich Guigal Mouline so I go with that and a 1990 guess. So exciting to have the reveal show it's the rare Cathelin bottling which I've never had. My wine of the day for sure. I can still smell this the next day. Thks Steve! — a month ago
