The Hilt

The Vanguard Pinot Noir 2012

Shay A

Very enjoyable and in a good spot. I found this to be slightly stemmy and herbal, but plenty of gummy fruit to it. Small whole cluster usage? Spicy too...sweet rhubarb tart with blackberry spice. There is a fleshy profile to this showing soft red plum and mulberries. Acidity is holding strong. This is likely at peak...enjoy! — 6 days ago

Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Very soft and easily accesable but do not let that fool you. Great power in this wine. Paired with lobster and veal blade steak. Matched perfectly. — 5 months ago

Three Finger Jack

East Side RIdge Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This wine plays the outlaw image to the hilt. Lodi Cab faces off in a dusty street against Napa Cab, the fastest gun in town. They both shoot straight, but in different directions. Three Finger Jack has a nose of rustic black fruit, tar, forest floor, with only a hint of graphite. The palate leans in a more elegant direction, but still stands its ground as an “outsider.” It's a delightful drink, with plenty of pairing power and the tannic structure to prove it. — 4 months ago

Stitzel-Weller Distillery

Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Color is quite deep, like concentrated black tea. Nose is powerful, oily, crayon, aldehyde, spicy, apple cider, and a bit oak. Taste is spicy, minty, oaky, zesty, and drier than I pictured in the first sip. Ginger and more zest in the following sips. Still quite dry until finally caramel like sweetness comes out. Powerful and Anot for faint heart. — 9 months ago

Domaine Zind Humbrecht

Clos Windsbuhl Pinot Gris 2012

Off dry to medium sweet - ripe tropical notes hide a blade of acidity and subtle flinty smokiness. Yellow amber in the glass. Oily texture. — 3 months ago
