Rocks and Gravel Dry Creek Valley Grenache Blend 2015

From magnum. Last vintage of this ever made and in an amazing spot. Light on its feet while still showing wild and somewhat brooding character. This disappeared rather quickly. — 3 months ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Very dark ruby color. Medium plus acidity with grippy tannins. Needs a lot of air and much better the next day. Smell of dark fruit, tobacco notes. On the palate more earthy notes of gravel, tar, graphite with coffee and dark fruit. Will improve with age. — 6 months ago

Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencía

Suggested at Grand Cata on 11/29/2024 when I asked for Ribera sacra bzw. Galicia. $30. L noted Chambers had shipped same wine! Likely natural then, though lacking that liveliness. Drank 11/30/2024. Ash, bubble gum on nose. Puckett tannins will likely settle down with time and warmth. Black fruit, violets, gravel/slate. Long strong finish lingers. — 4 months ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (24%), Petite Verdot (3%) and Cabernet Franc (3%). Dark ruby/purple color. Aromas of plush black fruit, violets, graphite, leather, cedar and wet gravel. Jammy raspberry and blackberry fruit flavors with additional notes of plums, black currants, mocha, coffee, tobacco and baking spices. Beautiful hints of smoke and dusty earth on the long and precise finish. Rich and concentrated with great intensity. Medium-plus body and some noticeable tannins. Still a bit tight, but heading to a very good place. Thank you so much for the wonderful gift, Kasey and Pete! — 9 days ago

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

You're not 40 every day and I wanted a special wine to celebrate that special day. Fortunately the wine bar / open kitchen restaurant we went to had that special wine, amongst 400 references, that I had been desperate to taste for a long while. I didn't take notes so it's all from memory, but the nose is what I liked the most. Coconut notes, leather, cherries, coffee... I spent probably 15 minutes in total smelling that wine. The palate was great with some acid drive, some matter but not in an overwhelming way, some gentle, well integrated tannins in the rear, before a long finish with savoury notes, red fruits, coconut and that gentle grainy tannic layer. A great experience to top up a day to remember.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2009

Believe this is the 1st vintage released to the public. At age 15 finally decided to pop a bottle and see what's what.

+1 hour decant(some fine/cloudy sediment). A striking still inky dark magenta color. On the nose: subdued nose of dark fruit, graphite, clove, forest floor, smokey vanilla. Taste: silky, rich, nice depth mouthcoating wine with blackberry, gravel, baked fig, rich soil, and a dark chocolate tobacco finish with some slightly chewy tannins and a just a touch of heat at the end. YUM!
