Domaine Méo-Camuzet

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Royal elegance. Drinkable at ‘17 but would love to have explored in 5 years. Velvety tannins, gentle oak, a bit lacking in the acidity and grand cru finish. With Cerasulo in Tampa. — 2 years ago

Château de Pressac

St. Émilion Grand Cru Merlot Blend 2015

In the glass, the wine has a glistening, dark royal purple color, almost black in the center, with flashes of magenta just at the edge. The classic Right Bank nose unfurls gradually with aromas of sun-warmed black raspberries, griotte cherries, and sweet white tobacco moving in and out of the foreground, sometimes alternating with Dutch cocoa, eucalyptus, and vanilla as the wine evolves in the glass.

On entry, the wine is luscious and succulent, building to a rich, juicy mid-palate, with a cornucopia of black and red fruit flavors that echo the nose, all lightly seasoned with toasted coconut, baker’s chocolate, and red berry acidity, and the long, elegant finish is punctuated with sinuous, fine-grained, dusty tannins. Raen Winery

Cuvée Royal St. Robert Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2021

2021 vintage. Silken and ethereal with a strawberry/raspberry duo in the lead and a modicum of rhubarb tailing behind. Light medium body and unexpected, subtle concentration that seemingly lingers forever on the finish. Would love to slap this into a blind Grand Cru Burgundy tasting and see where it settles. Just might gain a few converts. — 2 years ago

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Had a wine tasting at Pichon Baron. This is considered to be a “ super” 2nd grand cru, and it’s amazing. Medium to full bodied. Royal burgundy colour. Big expression of dark fruits (plums, cherries) and wild berries (blackberry, blueberry). It was excellently balanced with soft spices and liquorice, leaving a very smooth, prolonged after taste. Wish I had more and a steak to go along with this. It isn’t cheap, $285 euro for a bottle. Enjoyed this much more than the Mouton Rothschild tasting we had earlier in the day. Edit, after trying more wines from the Bordeaux Region, this deserves an increased rating. — 6 years ago

Crown Royal

Extra Rare XR Canadian Whisky

This is the 'Red' version from the Waterloo distillery decommissioned in 1990...the best they ever produced. Secondary market pricing on this makes most of the current and difficult to source Suntory products seem like a bargain... — 2 years ago

Interesting. How does one know if it’s the “Red” version? Is there some identifier

@Norman Gennaro The neck label, plus the bottles indicate Waterloo or LaSalle on the front.

House of Arras

Grand Vintage Champagne Blend 2008

Tuesday the 26th of January was Australia Day and a public holiday. What better way to celebrate than Australia’s best fizz Arras Grand Vintage from Tasmania. Quite light lemon in colour. Very citrussy and mineral on the nose. 7 years on Lees showing in the complexity of the palate which still shows tension and refreshment. See previous notes for the 2007 which was slightly better and Champion Wine of the Royal Brisbane Show. — 4 years ago

Failla

Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2002

Crushed fresh mint, combination of raspberry and strawberry and violet and royal honey scents. Maybe just this particular bottle is magical (because Cali pinot never tasted so enchanting, on the verge of a grand cru from Chambertin.) I am absolutely blown away. — 6 years ago
