Still vibrant, exquisite concentration of flavors, no oxidation at all yet! but the tannin has almost all melted away and the almost 3-decades of aging is bringing out wonderful tertiary accents to complement the fruit, cedar, wet asphalt and a hint of white truffle. For the money, why drink anything else with Momofuku Ko’s heavenly 6-week dry aged bone-in strip. — 7 years ago
Gets the job done - would rather drink another 1er cru from gevrey chambertin — 7 years ago
Quite opaque dark cherry color, which promises sappy, full throated grand cru flavors and this 1er cru Roumier delivers - Very youthful still, though the tartness and tannin have softened with bottle age. It’s at delightful place right now, paired wonderfully with a soy-sauce star anise braised oxtail. — 6 years ago
Bouquet of cherry, mushroom and petrol - sweet cherry and lemonade in the mouth, with long energetic finish. But oddly, didnt exhibit any tertiary notes with time and it became quite raisin-y by the end of the 2hr dinner. So, I was a bit disappointed with the final drops of wine, not as stellar as the initial impression. — 7 years ago
Crushed fresh mint, combination of raspberry and strawberry and violet and royal honey scents. Maybe just this particular bottle is magical (because Cali pinot never tasted so enchanting, on the verge of a grand cru from Chambertin.) I am absolutely blown away. — 6 years ago
Wow! The 70s Barolos sing beautifully right now (2017)... this 1970 Marcarini beauty is older than me but certainly more youthful and pretty. Throw out vintage ratings from critics and grab any bottle of Marcarini from the 70s! Cherry cola, rose water bouquet reside harmoniously with mushroom and freshly rained on asphalt- just so good. A perfect pairing for Maialino’s squid ink taglioni as well as the namesake suckling pig. yum yum yum. — 7 years ago
Thia bottle was opened at Valette in Healdsburg, CA. Chef Dustin prepared a special matching tasting menu to pair with this beauty. The genius of crafting wine that tastes so good some 37 years after the fact still boggles the mind. Smooth glycerine integration of cedary petrol notes complemented fresh cut camomile flower and ripe cherries - I mean what? How did these youthful notes survive after all these years. Such an incredible wine. — 7 years ago
Jason Koh
gorgeously perfumed, vosne spice, absolutely sexy knockout nose; color is lighter than CLB’s vosne, but impossibly deeper flavors. Never shut down after opening, slight reduction quickly blew off and kept getting more and more complex. Delicious!! — 5 years ago
