Larose Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

Palmer Emmitt
9.4

Wow. A relic from my trip to Waiheke in ‘08, it’s holding up remarkably well. Spot on Bordeaux-like character with hints of bell pepper and graphite to go along with seamless tannin and racy acidity. The fruit character is still bright and sings with cranberry, cherry and red cassis in perfect harmony with the structure of the wine. Glad I waited and glad I have another bottle! — 5 days ago

@Peter van den Besselaar obviously a Delectable error but I wasn’t aware that Kumeu River make a Pinot Noir in any event.

Dry River

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2015

Brief notes. Barb said sour cherry. My initial impressions - dried herbs, dried red cherry and black plum. Quite a big Pinot Noir. One could say a Shiraz drinkers Pinot, but it’s better than that and gives the wrong connotation. Have my next one in late 2025. As I have said in prior notes it lacks nuance. — 23 days ago

Kumeu River

Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay

Vintage 2021 | This cuvée impressed me deeply: refinement and elegance, touches of vanilla and butter. Much better than eg mediocre Meursault. Lovely. Thought it was my first time but delectable shows me it is the third (139 and 501 weeks ago). Tonight it stuck me most. Must put some in the cellar. — a month ago

Kumeu River

Estate Chardonnay 2020

See previous Delectable notes for this 2020 Estate. Amazing quality for the price. This is the basic Kumeu Estate Chardonnay before you consider the individual Cuvées like Mates, Coddington etc. peachy stone fruit intensity on the palate with enough acidity to keep it fresh. Should be an annual purchase. Have the last one later this year or early 2026. The Village is even less expensive at only $21.50 AUD. — a month ago

A little less concentrated than some of the other Kumeu River wines, but still lively and has that same beautiful lemon cream. — 2 months ago

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2018

Light bodied ruby colour 13% alc with good nose of berry flavours, great integrated tannins and good balance of fruit and acidity with quite a long lingering finish
We are fortunate that Australia is flanked by NZ and South Africa and all three have great Pinots that can stand tall with the wines of Burgundy at very affordable price points 🤗
