and a point of view—that grows with circumstance—or just good chardonnay on a sunday afternoon?
@domainemikulski isn’t your average bourgogne blanc, and of all the burgundy we got to taste at @gunterseegerny, the ‘11 meursault charmes stands out. this isn’t that—entry level, fraction of the price, young—but its elegance, concentration, richness, and hi-fi overtones speak the same vernacular, same “extraordinary gift for hope,” that nick said of gatsby. — 12 days ago
Canary gold color, looks young. Memorable nose with notes of lemon, honeysuckle, white acacia blossoms, and white clay with that Kimmeridgian characteristic that says Chablis. With more air, you also get sea shells and ocean breeze, and the telltale Raveneau honey comes out. Coats the mouth... has a huge richness matched against robust structure. This becomes more sweet and exotic as the evening progresses. Of all the bottles tonight, this was gone first. As good as Chablis can get. (Bday 4 of 13) — 6 days ago
Quite oxidized, golden honey colored, nutty, still with some bright acidity, citrus, but also minerality in finish. A bit of dried apricot in the profile. — a month ago
Insanely aromatic, thick nose of chamomile, lanolin and the color spectrum of peaches. On the palate tutti-frutti basket with everything from white cherry to oranges. Thank you to the somms that let me interlope on their blinding session today, and sneak a slurp of this magical stuff. — 20 days ago
Vintage 2015 | off dry Chenin Blanc with excellent balance and a smell that reveals new impressions every time you take the glass to your nose: honey and minerals are prominent | often a wine really expresses itself in combination with food. This Clos Habert is perfect with the peppery rilettes of local star butcher Jean Maurice Lejeune. Second day, with ham in aspic — 7 days ago
Also from the Le Bournais plot, but from 20 specific rows of ungrafted grapes. The volume has been turned up on flavors and aromas here. The fragrant nose reveals notes of grilled herb, beeswax and honey, and smokiness and saltiness carry through the dense palate into a long mineral finish. Fresh, powerful and ageworthy. Nose has metallic blackberry, white pepper, ripe plum, prune and baking spices.
Palate has tart plum, dried blackberry, white pepper on mashed black cherries and potting soil. Medium body, light minerality, medium finish. Nice wine, young, could really benefit from a few years of proper resting.
60% Pineau d’Aunis / 30% Pinot Noir / 10% Cabernet Franc
A solid pairing with local (Jacüterie/Hudson Valley, NY) British Bangers on the grill tonight, peppery wine with well spiced, fresh sausage, yum! — 7 days ago
