Reserve Eye of the Falcon Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot 2021

New vintage of this Cab and Petit Verdot blend. Grippy tannins, and powerful layered red and black fruit. Long finish. As the wine opens up beautiful hints of cassis. Nicely integrated at 5 years. Great wine to celebrate all the moms. ❤️😊 — 2 months ago

Château Haut-Bergey

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

2009 Vintage. This wine has aged well. A touch of leather, spice and fading fruit. Nice wine for a $39 price years ago. Great with prime rib eye. Very enjoyable. — 4 years ago

Mas de Boislauzon

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

Brought to Tasting Group. My first of three bottles. Popped and poured, enjoyed over two days. Day 1 was tasted blind. This wine comes across quite primary with powerful, stewed bramble fruit, baking chocolate and baking spice notes indicating the potential use of French barrique. Medium-plus tannin. Medium acid. Overall, this is a good and enjoyable wine...but nothing really pushing the needle if I'm being honest. Most around the table declared it Bordeaux. None called Southern Rhône. Everyone was surprised when it was revealed, including me, which expected more considering my usually appreciation for this producer's CdP (known to have an unusually large amount of Mourvedre in the blend). The interesting thing was the French barrique call as I understand this wine to be aged exclusively in concrete...?? Day 2, the fruit was softer and slightly more muted. The stewed characteristics were enhanced and the structure seemed to be receding. Perhaps too early to tell where this is headed...or perhaps this just isn't the strongest vintage from Mas de Boislauzon. I have two more so we will see how some cellar time treats these. — 5 years ago

Nice note. I’ve been drinking less and less Southern Rhône these day because I’m finding more stewed and/or blocky wines. Global warming? Winemaking trend toward overripeness and/or overextraction? Both?

@Tom Casagrande same. There are less than a handful of Southern Rhône producers I buy every year anymore and the list is getting smaller. It’s a tough situation for growers.

Jean Vesselle

Oeil de Perdrix Brut Champagne Blend

Historic style of making champagne, eye of the partridge is something between a Blanc de Noirs and Rose. Such an appetizing rose gold color. Pastry/biscuit, strawberries & cream & clementine on the nose, much more lithe, tense and bright on the palate.

Honestly it’s hard to come up with descriptors because it’s just a joy to drink.

Disgorged last year on Valentine’s Day.

I’m really digging the Vesselle wines these days and they are so reasonably priced for the quality.

Tenuta Grillo

Igiea Barbera d'Asti

Barbera as it should be. Generous, rustic, intense, honest. It's a wine that looks at you in the eye, speaks of rolling hills, countryside, farm animals and good values. Beautiful nose and excellent length. The great work in the vineyard shows glorious in the glass. Enjoy with no limits ! — 7 years ago

Les Amidyves Côtes du Ventoux Grenache Blend 2014

@Delectable Wine - This is majority, if not 100%, Syrah. It’s not a Grenache blend.

I was skeptical. I usually don’t like Syrah from the Southern Rhône. It’s usually blocky and uninteresting. But this. Put this blind in a group of Saint Josephs and no one bats an eye. Cracked pepper, dark berry, granite, and pink grapefruit rind. So lively in the mouth. Clingy and stoney. Delicious.

La Cave du Vin Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle

Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle Prié Blanc

In addition to its unique bottle shape and colorful, eye catching label, the 2023 Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle, is
also known for being produced at Europe’s highest vineyard: the Valle d’Aosta region in the upper northwest of Italy, on the borders of France and Switzerland, just a chip shot from the Summit of world-famous Mont Blanc.

The clear, light straw appearance is followed by persistent lemon/lime/floral aromatics and flavors. It is sourced from pre phylloxera rootstock of the indigenous Prié Blanc grape.

It is well balanced and structured with ample fruit and acidity; Light bodied, but somewhat fleshy, with a lingering touch of skin contact (oak?) at the long mouth coating finish. A most unique wine from a singular site. Worth a try if you can find it.

"Sentinel" Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Tried this again about 8 months later. Sentinel Cabernet Sauvignon is named for the shield-shaped block that casts a watchful eye on the entrance to Monte Rosso Vineyard. Deep Ruby with aromas of rich dark fruit, cedar and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry, blackberry and currants with vanilla oak and toasty nutty notes. Fine soft tannins, well balanced with acidity, long finish ending with berry fruit, cacao and toasty vanilla oak. Nice! — 4 years ago

Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Have been saving this 1997 vintage for a special day and Father’s Day 2019 arrived. We grilled a 12 oz rib eye, asparagus, baked potato and had home grown tomato..... Opened and aired for 1hr. Beautiful! Soft but definite black cherries, hint of coffee and whiff of dark chocolate. Smooth taste that lingers with minimal tannins and the taste with a bit of bitterness at the end that adds to the taste. Excellent! — 7 years ago
