El Alma De Jonata

Alma Rosa

El Jabali Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Nose: Côte d’Or nose. Hint of elegant wood. White flowers.

Palate: sweet oak. Not oaky. Great fruit. Apple. Citrus. Lacks a bit of verve. Acidity on finish.

La Sangre de Jonata Ballard Canyon Syrah 2015

Even better than the crazy-good 2007, the 2015 La Sangre de Jonata is sheer perfection in a glass and up with the finest Syrahs ever made in California! Checking in as a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, aged in barrel, its saturated purple color is followed by out of this world aromatics black raspberries, smoked earth, graphite, game, violets and freshly crushed rock-like minerality. — 4 months ago

Sounds crazy, given the pricing, but underrated stuff.

Alma Terra

Ponte Rias Baixas Albariño

Sharp aromas of flowers, pine and pineapple makes this distinctive Albariño from a single vineyard by the Rias Baixas region in Galicia, Spain to differentiate from others. Falls on the dry side and does not have a lingering long finish. A perfect companion on any seafood pairing. — 5 months ago

Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2022

Nose: that vegetal note. Cocoa

Palate: vegetal a bit. Fruit in background. Good acidity. Maybe some plum. Cocoa. Some sweet fruit. Some spice.

Todos Ballard Canyon Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

A blend of about 50% Syrah, rest Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Cab Franc, Sangiovese, Viognier & Merlot. Deep inky Ruby color with complex aromas of dark fruit, spice, almonds and wet earth. On the palate blackberry, currant and raspberry flavors, soft tannins on a long finish ending with leather, pepper, smoke and oak tones. Very Nice, a beauty. — 3 months ago

El Desafio de Jonata Ballard Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

2021 vintage. Light-medium body but with more stuffing than encountered in the previous 6-7 vintages. Unanticipated frontal-palate richness. Expected, back-end, oomph without massive tannins. Pretty without being precious. Would love to throw this ringer in a Napa and/or BDX tasting. Phenomenal without the cloying weight of the usual suspects. Best Cabernet Sauvignon effort I’ve had from this winery. 01.29.25. — 5 months ago

Tierra Santa Ynez Valley Sangiovese 2021

Smoky!

Want a reason to try some California Sangiovese?

There ya be. As it opens the fruit just seems to erupt- and all the while the smoke just kicks back, feet up, waiting.

Just outstanding.

Flor Ballard Canyon Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2022

The Jonata “Flor” is a damn good reason to fall back in love with Sauvignon Blanc (wish a dash of Semillon). Fresh and crisp yet lush and silky- all at the same time. And it evolves. From the nose to every bit of the palate, the “Flor” is a masterpiece. — 4 months ago

Alma Mora Malbec 2022

Slight fruity smell and a great taste, not sweet but not dry. In my opinion a well balanced red wine to accompany any moment. — 10 months ago
