Terre Nere (Campigli Vallona)

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

It’s been about 6 months since I last checked in on the 2016 vintage of Terre Nere’s Rosso di Montalcino. I was very impressed with the wine on release and I’m falling for how this wine is developing! Popped and poured; consumed during the duration of our Tuscan-inspired dinner. In the glass, a bright ruby with medium viscosity. Medium+ intensity. On the nose, waxy bing cherry fruit, flower shop, medium-aged Manchego cheese, bergamot, and dusty attic. I could smell this wine for hours and be satisfied! On the palate, a mix of red and dark cherry fruit, Earl Grey tea, tomato, orange citrus rind, and dusty earth. The freshness of this wine is simply awesome. Loads of structure for an RdM (some Brunellos may be jealous)…but it could also just be 2016 being 2016. The finish is long and as it lingers, comes across slightly saline. A fabulous wine with a long and exciting future. — 4 years ago

Clos des Meixvelle Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2017

Red fruit, hibiscus, rhubarb, rose, plenty of acid against some mineral/floral character. Seems like it could use more integration despite its age. Drinking a 2017 in 2025. — 7 months ago

Hatschbourg Alsace Grand Cru Gewürztraminer

Do you know I keep trying it and I’m just not a fan of Gewurztraminer. There’s too much of a perfume flavor to it but it’s sort of reminds me of like chewing those fake fruit gummy‘s. This is delicious, it just sort of gets overwhelming after a while. — 4 years ago

Carnival of Love McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016

Powerful yet elegant Aussie Shiraz. Dark ruby color. Aromas of raspberry, eucalyptus and cocoa. Palate is rich with plum and raspberry fruit along with notes of root beer, baking spices, black licorice and Earl Grey tea. Hint of vanilla on the long and lingering finish. The tannins are concentrated but well integrated. Plush, rich and intense but beautifully balanced. Aging nicely. — 2 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2007

2007 Chateau de Beaucastel- The 2007 Chateau Beaucastel is deftly walking the tightrope between primary and tertiary tones at the moment. Aromatically profound, the wine immediately unveils layers of black fruits woven together with shades of white truffle crudo, black peppercorns and Earl Grey tea that take shape in the glass. Showing brilliant verve and freshness, the palate has great depth of concentration, power and range. Blackberry compote and black licorice flavors combine with lighter red raspberry, damp earth and Provencale herb accents on this expressive palate. The long finish marvelously accentuates this beautiful wine. Marvelous now at the thirteen year mark, the 2007 Chateau Beaucastel has many years of drinking enjoyment ahead of it.
