Nightcap. I have been eyeing this 2018 Bourgogne Rouge for sometime and haven’t found the night to enjoy. Seems it was meant for tonight’s nightcap.
I enjoy Henri’s whites over his reds. His whites are go to. But, this red burgundy is quite pleasant. Nice on its own but is more friendly with/ food…Duck Confit.
It has started to settle in nicely. Fruits are dark & mid red & forward. Ripe, lush & juicy; blackberries, black raspberries, plum w/ heavy skin, strawberries, red cherries & pomegranate with blue & purple fruit hues. Light baking spices-cinnamon, nutmeg, vanillin, chocolate pudding, toast, moist, blended limestone minerals, dry top soil, beautiful, soft, dark spice blend, fresh rain showered forest floor, tea, tree sap, fresh herbs, touch of mint/eucalyptus, moist, grey volcanic clay, dry twig, red cola notes, dry, floral, dark, red & purple flowers/florals, round acidity and a nicely knitted, tensioned, structured, balanced, rich, polished finish that last a full minute.

2021 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 45 minutes. Spicy, full nose with suggestions of power. Spices coming through in the flavors with this showing a medium-heavy body currently. Some great orange peel/zest in there as well. Intense and needing 3-5 years to loosen the death grip on your palate slightly. Can see this bumping up to a 9.4 in those next 3-5 years. 6.13.24. — a month ago
Lemon peel, white pepper, mint and crushed rocks abound. — a month ago
Aromas of lemon & verbena, nougat, marzipan & shortbread, crushed stones…but could a wine taste more yellow?!?! From lemon to pear, w golden delicious, mirabelle, quince, yuzu & star fruit ~ simultaneously rich yet electric w vibrant sappy juice, acidic core and a dusty mineral finish balancing the experience out! — 2 days ago
2014 vintage. Decanted. Yes, decanted. Let this warm up a tad from the 39 degree storage. Ridiculous lemon curd, orange peel, "minerality" and just ripened Anjou pear hither and fro. Tasted 1.25 hours after decanting and slowly warming up (tasted at approx 64 degrees). Rocking now and in the zone for the next 4-5 years without difficulties/speedbumps. Phenomenal. 7.5.24. — 23 days ago
