Absolute dime. Had the most acidity and we’re happy there was a 94 on the table because this one shined above all the others. Clear winner — a year ago

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Montrachet Chardonnay 2018

What a treat to taste, even so young. Not on my dime, so thrilled for a splash. This will be epic in time, but very tight now. Still plenty of pure orchard fruits, a plethora of apples, pears, peaches and apricot. Complex mid palette with a core of minerals, highlighted by bright floral notes. When you consider the rarity, the undeniable elite winemaking and the price these bottles fetch, it boggles the brain. Wow. — 5 years ago

(5305bb1be5c5cb8a3a001b98 -> 5305ba92352b69163a003c22) New Belgium Brewing

Voodoo Ranger 1985 IPA

Pineapple-grapefruit look blasts a big-bubbled white puff with even stacking. Igneous lacing formation churns into Pahoihoi. Grapefruit and pineapple match the drapes, with the pineapple turning jell-o with cream topping. Papaya and mango make the rounds, ripely. Clean palate of zesty lemon wrapped around just ripe mango, and a tangerine thing that rounds it to mango texture. Minerally pineapple suggests a weightless and steely finish, but the lime drops the dime to call it home. Good rotation back to white raspberry! #newbelgium #newbelgiumbrewing #voidooranger #ipa #indiapaleale #newbelgiumvoodoorangernineteeneightyfiveipa #voodoorangernineteeneightyfive #newbelgium1985 #1985ipa #beer #bier #biere #birra #rotatingseriesbeer — 6 years ago

Rivers-Marie

Panek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The 2016 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard lasted 10 days before I finally gave in. My weakness was rooted more in curiosity than hedonism. Albeit much of that curiosity had to do with how hedonistic it was. After 30 minutes I was concerned that I might have killed a baby. After 45 mins it turned on a dime, and after another 30 minutes it came into focus and you realize all’s right with the world. There’s a seamless swath of minerality and savoriness that spans from wet gravel to dark chocolate cocoa powder while also revealing a bridge of cedar, cassis, underbrush, grilled meat, and espresso. Once again, this makes an excellent argument for being my favorite wine in the valley. — 8 years ago

Bought a couple of these too, plus some of the new Herb Lamb, have you tried that yet?

@Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher Bum I have not tasted the Herb Lamb yet, but considering the pedigree of both the Colgin and HL offerings from that vineyard, it’s hard to imagine Thomas isn’t doing something awesome there too! Looking forward to your review.

Paringa Estate

Sparkling Shiraz 2016

This dark wine has a big, grapey nose with a blast of leather and meat coming right behind. It's an interesting combo, such a simple beginning that turns complex on a dime. The palate is just as brash, with subdued bubbles, keen acidity and a dark, fruity taste. Think Lambrusco, but bigger. The earth profile hits late and stays on the finish. Fun. — 8 years ago

Cuvée Alexia Morgon Tradition Gamay 2017

I love dime. Absolutely love it. It’s been a pleasure to explore it beyond the village level. Wonderful lush and freshness of strawberry and hence a peppery radish and excellent floral notes throughout. We had this with some smoked Gouda and triple cream brie and it was amazing how each cheese brought out different flavors inherent in the wine. Could not have enjoyed it more. — 5 years ago

Château Magdeleine Bouhou

Côtes de Blaye Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

The nose is a delight of cassis, blueberry & blackberry as well. For being a 2010 I was worried how this would behave- but there’s no worry here. 2010 was a legendary vintage all throughout Bordeaux- and this inexpensive little number is proof of the point. It’s in its prime, and costs a dime for every dollar one would consider spending on more recognizable labels. Yea. I’ve given the matter a lot of thought, and the 2010 Château Magdeleine Bouhou is my 2020, Poor Man’s Cheeseburger Wine of The Year.

Given its history, its story, and its rarity, I wanted to LOVE this, but as lovely and delicious as it is, it doesn’t measure up to the best Sauternes. Don’t get me wrong — I would drink it all day long, just not on my dime. — 8 years ago

La Stoppa

Ageno Malvasia di Candia Blend 2017

When oranges wines are a dime a dozen, it is a special moment to drink one as epic as this. Golden brown and translucent. Very sherry-like against the light. There definitely is a sharp acidity but kept in check by aromas of dark fruit, honeyed tea, and an intriguing incense-like note. Taste is smooth and rich with citrus fruits, dried appricot, and a touch of sweetness. Medium-length finish and there is definitely some lingering tannin. This is a skin-contact wine to contemplate that keeps on giving. Very food-friendly, too. — 5 years ago
