Caymus Vineyards

Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1990

Inspired by @Eric 94 Dalla Valle tonight.

Decanted for sediment (some fine/cloudy sediment). A sensational tawny ruby red color. On the nose: Very aromatic nose of black cherry, currants, barnyard, earth, leather, and smoked meat. Taste: Damn, must have added some water from the fountain of youth. A smooth, still bright, juicy medium body wine with black currants, leather, hint of red berries, musky earth, and a minty espresso medium finish. Nice classic aged Cali cab!

Pietre Rosse Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

2018 vintage Nov 2021. Dark ruby color. Decant an hour and opens nicely. Yummy red fruit, with black fruit coming in later, earthy and mineraly. Fruit pretty mild at this point. Long mineral finish. Chewy yet smooth, very nice and fulfilling mouthfeel. Strong backbone. Will be interesting to see how this one ages. — 7 months ago

Dalla Gasperina Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Ron R
9.5

Spellbinding nose of nectarines and grapefruit, which glide effortlessly to the mid-palate. So fresh and vibrant, with a powerful acid and zesty profile. Glass cork to boot, this is going to sail on for many years. This is “liquid music” and its beat and melody are unique. — 5 months ago

YES! I agree. MO makes my favorite Sauvignon Blanc, and some other great wines too! Glad that I have a couple of these 2020’s down in the cellar. Might have to try to get a few more.

Hi @Mark Farrell, I saw you tasting notes - I agree with you. I bought a case of this, and really happy I did! Have you tried his chard? Thanks.

@Ron R Yes, I’ve had his chard (I’ve got another in the cellar) but prefer his SB for whites. I really like his reds. You can see in my notes, I’ve tried just about all the reds he makes. My favorites of his are: Antithesis, Wrath Syrah, Bacigalupi Pinot, Noctus, and a lot of his Cabs. @Mike R and I shared his Edcora Cab when I met him. Good wine and a good story. Jason Moore is a super nice guy. I actually had a chance to shoot some video with him last year when I launched my business. His other business, The Find, offers some nice small lot wines from other high quality winemakers. Cheers!

Dalla Valle and Ornellaia

DVO Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2019

Dark garnet with a jammy nose of dark plum and some oak and/or some light leather. Smooth in the mouth with medium tannins & acidity. Also a hint of fruit forwardness or more red fruit like plum and red berry. A very nice blend! Again thanks James- — 4 months ago

Tra La Terra e Il Cielo Barbera d'Asti Barbera 2016

2016. We really liked the way the oak rounded out this wine when compared to the slightly more tart Barbera d’Asti from the same producer that was poured as part of my daughter’s pairing. Paired with the Tajarin dalla forma finished in a wheel of gran kinara cheese. — 6 months ago

Seven Apart

Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Nice 👍🏼, definitely a 4 hour decant or 5-10 year hold $150. 00 on release but it has the stuffing of a $250.00 bottle, Parker 98 + review This is the second vintage from Seven Apart—a blend coming from Stag's Ridge vineyard, located up on Atlas Peak, and Base Camp vineyard, located seven miles down the mountain (hence the name). The winemaker here is Andy Erickson, formerly at Screaming Eagle and Harlan Estate and currently also consulting winemaker at Dalla Valle (among others). The upper vineyard (Stag's Ridge) is planted to mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Seven miles down the road, where Soda Canyon Road meets the Silverado Trail, is the four-acre Base Camp vineyard, planted in the mid-1990s to Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Base Camp was planted in 1994 and 1998. Opaque purple-black in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Expedition erupts from the glass with explosive scents of boysenberry preserves, blueberry pie and Black Forest cake, plus suggestions of molten chocolate, licorice, tar and violets, with a waft of sandalwood. The full-bodied palate is full-on rich and decadent, exuding layer upon layer of opulent black and blue fruit preserves with bags of exotic spice accents and a long, fragrant finish. Pure hedonism. It is tantalizingly delicious right now, but give it 3-4 years in bottle to blow off that puppy fat, and drink it over the next 25 years+. — 8 months ago
