100% Pinot Grigio from Abruzzo. Light straw color. Aromas of orchard fruit, citrus, white flowers and fresh herbs. Bold green apple flavor with additional notes of lemon/lime, pear, green melon and those fresh herbs. Hints of saline and minerals on the medium-plus and slightly (pleasantly) bitter finish. At twelve years old, this is holding up remarkably well, though there’s nothing delicate about it. It’s a huge, unapologetically ripe wine, overflowing with black cherry, blackberry compote, fig and dark plum, layered with cocoa, tobacco and savory spice. The sheer volume of fruit is almost overwhelming, yet the wine never feels tired or heavy. A firm spine of acidity runs straight through the middle, keeping everything fresh and surprisingly alive. Superb nose of red berries, leather, quince and some herbal notes. The palate is very well made with a great acid drive, some red berries notes all along, some width but it's rather light and smooth on the mouthfeel. There are some tannins in the rear, a bit dusty and drying and a long fruity and fresh finish that lingers for quite some time. I had never heard about refrosco before and I read that it's pretty confidential. I will make sure to dig into it some more! — 3 years ago
