The Absurd Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

100 POINT Cult Wine.

Inky in color with a short purple rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, tobacco, chocolates and black pepper. Very dense.

Full bodied, big and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, espresso, vanilla, spices, chocolates, tobacco, light herbs, light alcohol and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Showing great complexity with a great mouthfeel. Nicely balanced, Rich and extracted.

Robert Parker 100 points.

This 9 year old is still young, but already drinking beautifully. Will continue to age nicely in the next 25 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 3 hours of airtime.

Complex, and easy to drink. Just wonderful. A good sipping wine that doesn't need food, but will also pair very nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. A small production of only 3,000 bottles.

14.6% alcohol by volume.

96 points.

$1,000.

George III Vineyards Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvigno 2011

I haven't tasted one of these for several years, and I think this is now our last bottle. Now this is 11 years after the vintage. The nose is very, very muted blackberry with a touch of menthol. On the palate, again the fruit is muted but raspberry and blackberry are there still... Cedar bark, licorice, soil... We're getting close to end of life here, but still an enjoyable glass of wine. Tannins holding together and the finish is medium and herbal. — 2 years ago

The Sisters Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

David T
9.7

I would invite you to find a bottle like this older & well stored 03, “The Sisters. “I would enjoy tasting this blind w/ Napa Cult wines & lovers. Then, watch their eyes open wide when I pulled off the brown bag. Many would call Colgin, Scarecrow, Harlan, Bond & the like etc.. I recently paid $50 for this 2003 at auction. That includes tax & auction fees. For vintage, they would call 10, 13 or 14. This is still youthful. Beautiful M+ somewhat rounded tannins, fruit buffet w/ dark pronounced spice. This has ten years plus left.

The palate is round, plush, phat fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, plum, dark cherries, strawberries, purple fruits with blueberries. Dark, well pronounced spice, soft baking spices, sweet graphite, soft, fresh, tobacco notes, used leather warm, gray clay, river-stone, mocha, caramel notes, dry crushed rock, limestone marl, some dry top soil, dark, purple red fresh & withering florals, excellent, round acidity and a well made, balanced, beautifully structured and elegant finish that lasts minutes falling on elegant earth & spice.

TRB made wine. Stunning!!!!

Chemin de Chalons Avize et Cramant Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay 2018

Such an incredible Champagne from surely the the next grower to develop that cult following. Straddling Avize and Cramant, single vineyard BdB Chemin de Chalons, (also made by Jacques Selosse), is a stunning expression of the site and the iconic village of Avize. It’s incredibly elegant, pure and detailed with seductive aromatics, a chalky mineral core and an amazing pillowy mousse that fills the mouth and continues to stay with you, giving way to its long and racy finale. Special wines… — a year ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2021

Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir
Liaison 2021
Baden, Germany
12.5% ABV

German Pinot is supposed to be the next big thing, the best Pinot Noirs outside the Cote D'Or. And Enderle and Moll is reputedly its top producer , with a cult-like following in the German-speaking world. They make 3 versions, somewhat comparable to regional level , village level and grand cru, their top wine being the Buntsandstein. The Liaison is their mid-level offering from old vines up to 50 years old grown on limestone and sandstone soils. Needless to say , I've been dying to try one and see if it lives up to the hype.

On Day One , pop and pour. Very light, translucent ruby. Pretty red fruit and fresh mushroom aromas lead to a light yet intense entry on the palate with bracing , mouthwatering acidity dominating the wine at this stage. Showing more '21 Germany than Pinot character at this stage, so corked and revisited the next day.

On Day Two, this has completely transformed . The first thing noticed is that the color has become darker and deeper, and now looks like classic young burgundy. Aromas are also much more developed , with scents of Indian spices underneath the cherries , raspberries and forest floor. The tiniest hint of wood adds breadth and depth to a bouquet of classic pinosity, but with a character all its own.

On entry, this shows typical flavors of red fruit (currants , marasca cherries , cranberries ), brown spices , and sous bois in a light -bodied but incredibly intense package , with bracing acidity unlike any Pinot Noir I've ever tasted. Despite all the mid-palate energy , this has only moderate length and intensity on the finish. There's a bit of barely noticeable tannin. Built for medium term aging , it will be interesting to see if it remains balanced as it develops. Regardless , the acidity helped make it exceptionally good at the table , here paired with an herb and teriyaki roasted Salmon.

The Liaison can be found for around $30 here in the States , making it an excellent value, though California Pinot lovers might find the level of acidity shocking . While it's not going to make me think about pouring my Wilamette Valley Pinots down the drain , this is really good for the level, and really food friendly. A Pinot for Italian Wine lovers .

I am drinking E&M all levels since their second vintage in 2009. They have never disappointed. However they are not for the faint of heart. And some need a lot of age - very nice review !

The Standish Wine Company

Single Vineyard Shiraz 2019

No formal notes. Rich plummy aromas and obviously the product of old vines. Standish has somewhat of a cult wine following in Australia and sells out quickly. I have a variety in my cellar covering 3 Cuvées but yet to open because of the youth of the wines. Rich without weight or heaviness - easy to love. I would argue no better than Sami Odi at less money for the latter. David Trumper, former Delectable correspondent, was a huge fan of Standish. — 3 years ago
