Castello dei Rampolla

Vigna d'Alceo Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot Blend 1997

Black cherry and cassis, pencil shavings, balsamic notes, polished furniture.
Still a touch of tannic grip, wonderful freshness and acidic bite, this is a regal example of CS, and drinking perfectly now.

Aia Vecchia

Sor Ugo Bolgheri Superiore Super Tuscan Blend 2019

Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in French oak (50%new), deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits with toasty oak notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with smoke, tar and sweet spice. This is a full-bodied red that wraps thickly over the palate, showing rich density and concentration along the way. Firm tannins, medium+ finish ending with ripe fruit and toasty oak character. — a day ago

Toscana Red Blend 2015

This was infanticide - absolutely inky & impenetrable color, and shut down nose. I caught a glimpse of the power & depth after several hours, but I opted to hold the bottle for a couple of days… glad I did: drenched in rich black cherry, blackberry, black plum, and secondary notes galore: smoke & white pepper, lilacs & violets, turned soil, cherry cough drop, and so much more. Wave after wave, first it was Brunello then it was some intense Aussie Shiraz. Palate is huge, but finely grained tannins. Lacking acidity is really the only facet holding this back. Paired w/leftover roasted lamb w/balsamic reduction over rice. Impressive @Lyle Fass but I won’t touch this again for at least 5 yrs — 13 days ago

Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deeper ruby color with a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity; slight staining of the tears. On the nose, dark cherry, dried herbs and baking spices…it smells Italian. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with monumental structure. The fruits and non-fruits are confirmed. I gotta say this is painfully primary. It took half a day of air to even budge. I vacillated between Sangio and Nebbiolo…the color didn’t quite seem right for Nebbiolo but the structure was beyond what I would expect for Sangiovese. So, I called Barolo from 2017, from a modern producer. Welp…I got the Italian part right! In hindsight, I should have trusted the color. If you have these, slow-ox for at least 12 hours before service. This will drink nicely, well past it’s fifteenth birthday. — 2 days ago

Sammarco Toscana SuperTuscan Blend 2014

Left over from a friend which was open for a couple of days (but vacuum and chilled). This wine definitely needs more bottle age. Acidity, tannins and fruit are all over the place. But don’t get me wrong, still a fantastic wine, the best is yet to come! — 16 days ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Fontalloro Toscana Sangiovese 2017

Hot vintage, warm, aromatic, baked earth, dark cherry, dried herbs, a bit of olive tapenade, yet incredibly fresh, cool, enticing.
Medium bodied on the palate with incredible freshness, juicy acidity, pure fruit. Great depth & character, so drinkable, so fresh.
Year in, year out - even in a difficult hot vintage - this is just brilliant.
One of my all time favourites!

A Quo Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Sangiovese 2017

A purplish red color catches your eye as it flows freely into the glass. Fruit forward with red cherries and blackberries with notes of limestone and cinnamon. Medium tannins follow well with its bold and intense richness. This super Tuscan goes well with a nice filet or a meat gravy and pasta! Montepeloso A Quo! — 11 days ago

Flaccianello della Pieve Colli Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 1995

Wow this was an excellent find in Roma! A perfect bottle of 95 Flaccianello - funky nose of a bit of cheese and blue fruits have way to a palate that was silky and just kept gaining intensity over the 3h it was opened - blue fruits, cedar, truffles and a touch of licorice. What a great experience on a Tuscan classic! — 15 days ago
