Clos Pegase

Mitsuko's Vineyard Chardonnay 2014

The Clos Pegase label features Pegasus, painted circa 1890 by the French artist Redon. Pale lemon with aromas of fresh fruit and floral scents. On the palate apple and melon flavors, creamy with pronounced oak and citrus notes. Medium finish, good balance ending with fruit and oak character. Still tasting well. Good value! We just tasted beside a Stags Leap, Pegase won, and it’s $5 cheaper!! Nice!! — 6 months ago

Alban Vineyards

Reva Alban Estate Vineyard Syrah 2004

Wow! So, happy Father’s Day everyone. I was blinded on this tonight. When a bit over-chilled it screamed Northern Rhône Syrah to me. All I got was olive tapenade and an animal blood quality. As it warmed I had to take a step back. It began to come alive in a way that took me from the Rhône to Bordeaux to Howell Mountain cab franc. As it became a bit too warm it lead me to new world cab franc, circa 2014. After the reveal, and back with a properly chilled glass, holy moly. Still with that olive tapenade/salinity, dark fruit, coffee. But the shear concentration remaining in this after 16 years is incredible. There is a tannic backbone, but in a way that plays second-fiddle to the flavor profile. One could ruminate over a glass of this wine for hours. — a year ago

Great bottle of wine - I really think the wines since 2011 are of the standard of John’s early 2000s

Black olives, blackberries, iodine and a touch of citrus. Wonderfully savory with a bright splash of fruit, and notes of herbs in the finish. OG California Syrah by Edmunds St. John circa 2015, El Dorado County. — 9 months ago

Château Clos L'Eglise

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

I have a history with this wine as it was an early love for me circa 1999 off a wine list at Aureole (the original Aureole). In haven’t had it in almost as many years and so a I grabbed a few bottles of 09. I don’t drink a lot of Bordeaux anymore but this seems to display more earth and less fruity to me than I expected. Bold alcohol content. Still showing some sharp edges. I like this wine but my 25 year old self had a very different palate. — 2 years ago

Domaine Henri Boillot

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2005

After an 04 Boillot Corton Charlie I opened was clearly corked, this was popped in its place. I’ve found many 05 WBs to be one dimensionally rich and fruit forward, and more California like in style. This was that PLUS everything you like about WBs. I quickly realized this bottle was opened way too early in its journey. Light gold, good weight. Exciting nose. Notes of citrus, tangerine, chalky white stone, cloves, a little nutmeg and some vanilla. Great energy in the mouth. Massive core of fruit, supported by amazing structure and noticeable acidity. After 3 hours in a decanter, this was singing. Easily one of the best 05s I’ve opened and very memorable. This can likely gain a few more points in its rating with another 10 years of age. Have 1 more bottle, destined to be opened circa 2030! — 4 months ago

Ethereal (circa 1510): of the highest regions of the atmosphere; (from 1590s) an extended sense of light or air. In a boxing match, this featherweight Veyder-Malberg will light you up. In the mountains, it’s the stone you sick and the air you breathe at the solitude of 11,000 feet. — 8 months ago
