2 people found it helpfulApr 18th, 2015I purchased a case of this wine on release and have been drinking a bottle per year to follow the evolution of this unusual grape variety as produced by the superlative Carole Meredith and Steve Lagier.
The early bottles showed a bloody brooding meaty power, but the wine has become more refined over the years.
This last bottle was the brightness with pleasant acidity, pure fruit, and a gracefulness on the palate that was slightly reminiscent of Gattinara instead of Rhone Syrah.

A Syrah-like Mondeuse. Aromatic, purplely (yes, purplely) with ripe fruit, though it’s the texture that’s earning it high marks. Someone on an earlier thread described it as “velour” (not in the matching-juicy-sweatsuit-circa-2004-tacky way, but in a blanket you want to wrap yourself in at the end of a satisfying day sort of way). A solid wine with which to toast to the happy occasion of having an old New York friend in town. Can’t remember the vintage. Matt?
