197 Chamery 1er Cru Brut Champagne Blend 2005

Just concluded our annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.

Nose has baked yellow apple, yeasty baked bread, limestone gravel and citrus peel.
Palate has yellow cherry, lemon rind, moist sourdough bread and hint of sweetness on the long finish.
Beautiful bottle.

Brut Réserve Grand Cru Champagne Blend

Celebrating my wife’s 31st birthday with some of her favorite things: friends, pizza, and wine.

I’ve grown fond of this grower/producer. Very pure and clean blend.

Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne 1888

Drank the first sip thinking it was a rose... but nope! Aging nicely with still some red fruit on the palate with some oxidative notes coming thru. — 9 days ago

Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2007

Quite the birthday dinner. By far the best wine paring I have ever had with a dinner. Now it’s time to go run the Chicago Marathon! Lightning minerality, fresh lemon zest, smell of brioche dough about to go into a warm oven. Great way to start the meal of a lifetime. — 4 days ago

199 Chamery 1er Cru Brut Champagne Blend 2007

Nose has rising bread dough, bruised yellow apple, oxidized yellow apple and moist chalk.

Palate has dried ginger, risen bread dough, under-ripe yellow apple, oxidized apple peel, superb mineral core and very long finish with lightly sweet, buttered popcorn. Just wow, love the vintage offers from P-F!

We're enjoying our first fire in the chimenea on this cool late summer evening, just one of many to come the rest of the year.

24 Hour Update: Still the same, still bubbling, perhaps a little more depth to the oxidized apple note, but just beautiful.

Krug

Grande Cuvée Brut Reims Champagne Blend

What do you do when the French white burg is bad? Open whatever else is in the cooler: a baby Krug! Delicious scents of almonds, honey and brûlée. The finest of bubbles present toasted brioche, hazelnut and nougat. Amazing! — 18 days ago

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Ambonnay Brut Blanc De Noirs Champagne

One of my favourite Champagnes. At the Come Taste the Stars Dinner hosted by Tyson Stelzer. 100% Pinot Noir. Barely a foot of top soil before the roots enter the chalk. Incredibly minerality. Egly prefers NV to vintage for the Blanc de Noirs. Disgorged 2018 with 6 years on Lees. A blend of 2010 and 2011 both average vintages incredibly. Full bodied and powerful. Stunning. Amazing value compared to the Krug Clos de Ambonnay at $4500 and 10 times the price of the Egly. — 5 days ago

Cuvée des Enchanteleurs Brut Champagne Blend 2000

Starting to open up but comes across as very acidic. Not sure if time will help it open up further. The steely acidity lingers a bit after some lighter fruit notes. — 10 days ago

Brut Rilly-La-Montagne 1er Cru Champagne Blend Rosé

This is good. In the beginning the nose had this vitamin B thing going on, but it wasn’t in the flavors in the mouth. The second day the smell was gone but the finish has this flintstone or scooby doo vitamin thing. Could just be a light struck bottle. TBL — 14 days ago
