Les Hautes-Maizières Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 1988

As far as I know, 1988 was the first commercial release of the “Les Hautes Maizières” and frankly, first from the Domaine itself. This bottle was opened just prior to service and enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 1988 Vosne-Romanée “Les Hautes Maizières” pours a hazy ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears and some signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of desiccated red and dark fruit: strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, dried red flowers, mushrooms, sous bois and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (fully integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and there’s a lovely, silky texture. There can’t be too many of these bottles still lying around in cellars so this is a rare treat! Drinking so very well right now so I’d suggest doing just that. — 2 days ago

Les Lavières Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

2018 vintage. Medium-body. Needs another 3-4 years to drop the bully attitude and false bravado, revealing a delicate and gentle soul beneath. Will likely pick up a case next week as the pricing is pretty good for this 1er Cru and effort. 01.09.25. — 11 days ago

Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Very enjoyable left bank bottling for $35 on the shelf, if not pretty closed. Decanted for 2+ hours and was just starting to reveal itself, still somewhat shy after 4+. Blackberry, stewed mulberry, earth, coffee grounds, garden, and spice. Not overly ripe or concentrated with a subtle bitter balance. Curious to see what day 2 is like. Good value candidate for cellaring though I wouldn’t hate a bit more acidity. — a month ago

Le Prieuré Hautes Côtes de Nuits Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2017

Beautiful color. Fresh, bright, juicy with nice acid. Red berries, flower petals, mulberry, little bit of forest floor and crushed rocks. Always had a good bottle from this producer. — 2 months ago

Blanc du Château Prieuré-Lichine White Bordeaux Blend 2023

An unconventional white blend from a 4th Growth Chateau on the left bank of Bordeaux.
70% Sauv Blanc, 30% Sémillon, provides a feast of Quincy and lemon peel aromas and flavors. Light and refreshing, young and lively. Dry, and some mineralized mouthfeel. Less than a 1,000 cases produced. Lovely!
