Dark brooding color, opaque in the glass. Great nose from the start. Notes of black fruit, red cherries, dark spice, menthol, slate stone and dark earth. Silky smooth and savory in the mouth. Blind I might have guessed this as a rich Guigal La Mouline. Still in the early part of its journey, this can be drunk now and over the next 10 years. — 5 years ago
Reddish orange purple. Opaque and dark. Nose that immediately says old La La. Really rich fruit and structure in the mouth. Really long finish. Guesses were around the 82/83 Mouline or Turque area but no, it was old Hermitage. This was as good as my experiences with the 78 version of this wine. Stood out on a night of great wines. — 10 years ago
1980 La Landonne and 1980 La Mouline. What a pair! — 12 years ago
My contribution to a large Rhône dinner. Standouts were ‘07 Chapoutier Le Meal Blanc, ‘89 and ‘90 Jaboulet La Chappelle, ‘11 Guigal La Mouline.
An over-generalization, but what I love about Cornas is the rusticity and sometimes feral nature of the wines (which I don’t find in Hermitage or CR) and this ‘05 is in that vein. I followed this from pop (after all, we are at the almost 20yr mark) and over the course of three hours.
Interplay of red and black berry fruits, black pepper, slightly herbal (maybe closer to potpurri floral) aromatically. Bright and nimble on the palate, nothing about this is ripe or soft. Energetic acidity all the way through surrounded by notes of iron (sanguine-like) and rocky minerality. Crunchy red and black fruits (whole-cluster?), hint of gaminess but not in the meaty-style I semi-expected. Clean and pure style of Syrah. Big structure at the finish…hard to imagine drinking this 10+yrs ago. Acidity and tannin will carry this a long time, but I think this is peak window for getting depth of fruit and complexity. — a year ago
Translucent purple color, lighter than la mouline 2016. Sandalwood from oak comes out. Ripe juicy blueberry, strawberry compote, cherry pie, roses, anise, cotton candy, very complex primary notes. — 5 years ago
Spot on young-ish Moulis, fruity with just enough tannins — 9 years ago
This was the groups WOTN against some pretty stiff competition. 59 Leroy GE, 82 LMHB, 82 Pichon Lalande & 80 La Mouline.
This is a very underrated vintage for LaTache as it is still showing tight and firm when 1st opened but really starts opening up after 30 min of air. Very aromatic and complex with red fruits, Asian spice, dried rose petal, game bird displaying power with elegance and finesse. Always a treat to drink a fully mature LaTache that is just reaching its peak drinking window. — 11 years ago
Fruité a fond, petite amertume — 11 years ago
Tasted blind. Bright purplish tawny color, mostly translucent. Amazing aroma. Sweet nose with notes of rich dark fruit, smoked meats, and some bacon fat. Great richness in the mouth, like velvet. The nose though is amazing and I keep a glass of this by my side all day to keep going back to. To me it seems like this is a super rich Guigal Mouline so I go with that and a 1990 guess. So exciting to have the reveal show it's the rare Cathelin bottling which I've never had. My wine of the day for sure. I can still smell this the next day. Thks Steve! — 4 years ago

99 points? The flaw in the rating system. If you compare it to other ampuis, sure. Compared to La mouline 2010 this is a 91-93 pt. cote rotie. Phenomenal. — 12 years ago
