The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle is fairly muted. Two hours in the decanter help unwind a restrained bouquet of rose pedals, violets, red and black cherry, cranberry, wood smoke and hints of iodine. Just a notch below full-bodied, the wine is tightly structured and embodies an underlying strength, which undoubtedly will be unleashed after a few years of bottle aging. I wouldn't dare touching this for at least 10 more years. Drink from 2030 until 2050. — 2 years ago
Fantastic expression, went beautifully with steak — 4 years ago
The nose was awesome. Beautiful youthful Pinot. The first taste was incredible, after nearly an hour of decanting. But I do have to say the mid-palate seemed to fade away a bit disappointingly, over the following hour it seemed to relax a bit too much. Overall a very nice wine, but the white was more exciting. — 9 years ago

First time since barrel in summer of 23 and it blew me away then. Gorgeous and pointed cherries on the nose, some minerals, bittersweet cocoa, spice, metal shavings and more. Gorgeous but will need some time to become more aromatic. Palate is a little discombobulated on the PNP but it’s all there. Grippy, dramatic fruit, amazing length and fruit density, gorgeous purity and grandiose minerality. It needs to come together though. It will. Really coming into its own with minimal air as that finesse is something else. And so so juicy. So fresh and energetic and what amazing fruit cling!! With air this comes alive with just exquisitely perfumed fruit. Perfect balance. Really great. — a month ago
