@Jan A, just a question — when you talk about it being better in a Day 3, are you using anything to preserve it (Coravin, etc.?), or just “cork back in the bottle and leave it on the counter”, or ??? Just curious, asking only from a personal calibration standpoint!! Thanks in advance!! 🍷🍷

Hi Doug, I drank a couple of glasses on day one, put the corck back on and put it in the fridge at 4 degrees celcius. Had a dinner party at friends on day two (didn't drink any of this wine) and came back to it on day three. Still standing fierce. Just a softer, opened up version of the youngish wine on day one. Very well made and a very good qpr.

Thanks for the feedback @Jan A -a your method is what I used to do, we rarely have much left over, so I usually don’t worry as much about oxidation in the leftover bottle!! 🤔🤷😂🍷

Château Laroque

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

97%M & 3%CF. Totally different Saint-Emilion. Very elegant and pure. Lightweight in the nose with medium bodied palate. Juicy and bright. Racy power with an enormous freshness. Crushed cassis, black fruit, cherry, dry flowers (violets) pepper, spice, mineral and some smoke. Superior balance, drinking rapidly. — 4 years ago

Complete and spectacular representation of CF from the old world. Like YO-YO Ma playing the score to the Sound of Music. Sensual and poetically articulate. Stunning $19 bottle that had 3 full days of life! — 6 years ago

Clos Rougeard

Saumur Champigny Cabernet Franc 2015

The initial taste had me as it was so delicate with the red fruit that seemed to gain strength in my mouth. The green note is there but only really as an accent on the finish. CF from Loire Valley is under appreciated. — 7 months ago

Banfi

Aska Bolgheri Rosso Cabernet - Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Blend 2016

ESF
8.9

We thought this was Sangiovese from outside of a recognized DOC, but I guess it’s CS/CF blend. Lots of red fruit on nose: cherry & strawberry, herbs, pepper, quite dusty early on, really needed time to unwind. Earthy, brambly, kinda gnarly, this really evolved over the night. Med weight, dried herbs and red fruit on the mid-palate w/supple tannins leading to modest finish. Interesting, definitely showing some maturity, but unusual given the varietal composition. — 2 years ago

First try of the 2017, from magnum.
Blackberry, cassis, cedar, fresh herbs, and the hint of barnyard. Ripe yet fresh on the palate. Medium to full body. Supple tannins.
85/10/5 CS/CF/Merlot from 3 vineyards, including the famed Stagecoach.

Marchesi Antinori

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

A blend of 65% Cab Sauv, 20% Cab Franc & 15% Merlot, note more CF and no Petit V as in prior years. Deep Ruby with aromas of black and red fruits and sweet vanilla cedar aromas. On the palate black cherry, blackberry and plum flavors with vanilla, tobacco and oak spice. Smooth and refined tannins, long ending with sweet earthy tones. Wow!! Need to decant! Tried twice, Wow! — 4 years ago

51% CF, 49%ME. Enjoyed the wine & blend. For me, these wines are a bit rough when young but smooth out nicely with age. — 4 years ago

Lovingston

Josie's Knoll Cabernet Franc 2017

Again, brilliant! Far more Chinon/Old World than 99.5% of the CF in the Mid Atlantic. While bit more body than the ‘16, but day 2 & 3 showed how much potential this has in the cellar :) — 6 years ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Scorewine
9.0

The second label of Chateau La Mission Haut Brion. A lovely elegant and appealing blend of 56% CS, 39% Merlot, and 5% CF. Delicious and still young, another great example of the nice surprises that the 2008 vintage had to deliver. Full of cassis, earth, chocolate, cedar wood, full body, rich, firm tannins, fruity complex finish. My score 90, drink to 2025 — 8 years ago
