Past notes apply, but let's go through the motions. Decanted for 45 minutes. Nose: Tobacco, pine needles, soil, and a cherry base. Deep ruby in color, medium plus bodied, medium plus alcohol, medium acidity. More red cherry emerges on the palate, and pipe tobacco... More precisely, my dad's Captain Black from the 1980s. Taste not quite as complex as the smell. Finish is medium. Tannins are perfectly centered. This just misses my 94 point threshold.

Aromas of crushed, ripe blackberries, clove, hints of anise, spiced orange, and sage all come together in the 2018 Gour de Chaulé Côtes du Rhône, creating an alluring and deeply satisfying bouquet.  On the palate, soft textures are complemented by fleshy blue and black fruits, along with notes of sweet licorice and purple-tinged florals, as minerals slowly settle in, adding gravitas. The finish is long, staining the senses in fruit concentrate, yet also centered by brisk acids, arriving late in the experience, or possibly, just in time.  Wow. — 6 years ago

Straight up never met a Ridge wine I did not like.

2016 seems to be a hotter year than most with a pronounced ripe fruit nose.. Ripened blackberry.

A centered body, with Eucalyptus, sage, ripe bramble fruit, whiff of leather and a touch of cedar box. Such a great wine when you want something delicious and are indecisive.

The Nod refers to the original Italian immigrant wines of Zin-centered field blends. Bedrock and Carlisle have significantly raised awareness of these heritage vineyards and wines over the past decade. And their products are significantly better as well. This is very pretty but just lacks some punch. Maybe Spring Mtn is not good terroir for Zin. — 8 years ago

Garnet-colored. Hits like it might be astringent but immediately smooths out and rolls across your tongue leaving a layer of tannins that diffuses nicely. If you swish it around, it will make you pucker. Very dry but buttery if you keep it centered in your mouth. I bought it because of an average rating of 9.3 for this 2020 vintage but I don’t think I’d rank it that high. Maybe a 9.0, a little disappointing for $50. — 2 years ago

Super Tuscan worthy of the name...a blend centered in the Sangeovesi genre'...this is a full-flavored, big, balanced, dry and tasty wine, a fine rendition of the berry. Big dry dry dry and notably bold on the palate with a dark purple color, aromatic berry-plum nose, this vino is a softly powerful and refined. This was a sneaky ghosted wedding gift. Pretty nose with ripe cherries, candied plums, pork loin, earl gray tea, potpourri, dark chocolate shavings, graphite, and ash. Mid-palate is juicy, fleshy and bright. The finish shows creamy red fruits centered in minerality and earth. You can grab this at $19.99, which is a steal for a quality Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir.
