Côte De Nuits Pinot Noir

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1996

Tasted blind. Dark murky red color. Notes of cherries... black cherries, tart cherries, lotsa cherries. Some cranberries and a little herbalness too. Masculine and brooding in the mouth. Seems really big, with tannins still present and lots of acidity. I guessed 95 Dugat Griotte. This needs another decade or two of slumber to develop more. Brought by a friend who said this was the first bottle he pulled from a case he bought on release. I hope to remain his friend. — 9 days ago

Les Cazetiers Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Dark fruited and oaky. Plenty of stuffing here, but it's just not my kind of red Burg. Blackberries and plums on the nose, with heaps of earthy forest floor character and vanillin oak. The palate is quite concentrated and comes across as sucking on a blackcurrant lozenge. Oaky spice flows from the mid-palate, and finishes meaty with hints of earthy minerals. There's definitely balance and complexity here, but just lacks a little finesse. I guess some might even call this classic Gevrey, but where does Rousseau fit in that definition 🤣 — 18 days ago

Aux Champs Perdrix Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Medium Ruby with black fruit aromas with slight toasty herbs from a very small Cru vineyard. On the palate blackberry, cherry and plum with vanilla, smoke and forest floor notes. Full body with medium+ tannins and generous acidity ending with good length with red berry fruits on the finish. Drink now but bottle age will benefit. Tasting Sample. — 9 days ago

You better drink this wine vintage if you have it - while opening it was very fresh and went down like water in the desert / tannins were so refined with exceptional length but at the end this amazing wine was was shutting down - I like it when the opposite is the case were the wine is brilliantly open reflecting subtle and evolving nuisances and creating interesting complexities - so an amazing burg at first but went bizarrely meek — 10 days ago

Perhaps it needed much more time to wake up from an 18 year slumber?

Les Beaumonts Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2009

This is the wine I brought along for dinner at the head of the Chevaliers movement in Australia. Barely mid crimson in colour. Delivers more intensity on nose and palate than the colour would indicate. Very sappy and savoury on the palate with good length and a great match with the lovely Coq au Vin prepared by the hostess. A great example of a mature Premier Cru from Beaux Monts. — 9 days ago

Estournelles Saint-Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Pop and pour. A medium murky red color. On the nose: black cherry, floral, and toast. Taste: raspberry, minerals, orange peel, little spice, with a medium finish..definitely needs more time...but still enjoying at this Michelin starred San Francisco Thai restaurant. — 4 days ago

Special stuff. Always a treat to have a grand cru burgundy especially if this caliber. Concentrated mulling spices, dense black fruit, stewed strawberries and the right amount of oak. My kind of wine. — a day ago

Drank 2/21/20. Tasting event. Tasting pour.

Minerality and a hint of lemon, lighter nose. Very clean on the palate with green apple, lemon with light tannins. Clean finish.

PnP. Fairly ripe. Lifted aromas. Almost borderline VA. Sappy dark red fruits. Definitely Nuits vs Beaune. Tannins are grippy. — a day ago

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2009

A dark Ruby in colour. Nose was closed. Very dense, brooding and youthful with so much potential. On the palate the Rich ripe berry fruit and earthiness was more apparent with spicy nuances appearing. This will be amazing in another 10 years once it loosens the shackles and probably go on for another 10 years after that. Thanks Mark for the opportunity to taste this beauty. — 9 days ago
