Clear, pale lemon colour. Clean, pronounced floral bouquet. Dry, with high acidity and medium bodied. Intense flavours of lime, lemon and citrus blossom. Long finish with significant minerality. A very good wine that would no doubt be better after a few years.

Black with burnt umber highlights. Low and creamy head springs with bubbles combining to undercut its great form. Fireworks lacing slow falls to leopard spots. Espresso and baker’s chocolate nose boasts licorice and chicory, campfire notes and vanilla. Palate shows none of the sweet elements of the nose initially. Instead, pipe tobacco and unsweetened bitter chocolate, the chicory and burnt toast prevail; a burnt tips taste lingering. Baked pecan, dark caramel, black pepper, and ethiopean coffee, with black chewing tobacco and vanilla bean complete the circuit. Power and restraint, in this lovely offering. This really did set the standard. #samuelsmiths #samuelsmitholdbrewery #tadcaster #NYorks #imperialstout #stout #englishstout #beer #classicbeer #bier #biere #birra #cerveza #cerveja #britbeer #britannia #ukberr #ukstout #britishbeer #britishstout — 6 years ago
Really nice cab franc. Light in color but bold medium plus tannic finish. Has some fruit there black cherry and some leather. This could use a couple more years in bottle to mellow the tannins and let the flavor come through but I’m a sucker for bitter and bitey wines so enjoying it as is now. — 6 years ago
A little gassy at first in the nose, but that blew off, brickish color. Black and red fruit, cherries and raspberries. I got the image of an abandoned sawmill, so the oak still shines through. Very integrated tannins, surprising amount of fruit still. This was a bruiser, initially, but it is a light bodied shiraz, now. Aging incredibly well, at least 5 more years, but drink now, for sure. A beautiful wine. Last bottle. — 7 years ago
This review is for the 2017 Cab Franc Sans Oak. Yes, you read that correctly, sans oak. Served chilled. It’s the grown up version of rosé. It’s mature and smooth and delicate. And it’s just a wee bit chewy and a nice set of stone fruit notes ... cherry. And yet very raw ... not mature. No tannin flavors ... no acid. Just delicate ... not at all what I associate with cab franc. Try it. Chilled. Instead of rosé. On the hottest August day with a grilled pork loin. — 8 years ago
Nice icewine from Niagara region. Sweet with ripe stone fruit and honey flavors. — 10 months ago
Clear, deep ruby colour. Clean, pronounced fruits and a touch of vanilla on the nose. Dry, medium acidity, medium tannins, with ripe black cherries and dry toast flavours. Full-bodied with a long finish. Very good quality.
Great accompaniment to the beautifully cooked chateaubriand.

This came from a special release called La Collection Crayeres Mis En Caves, where Charles Heidsieck released old non vintage champagnes dating back to 1990 and all the way through 2001, alongside a somewhat late disgorged release of their 2000 vintage (this bottle). I opened a bottle of the 2001 MEC (which is a base vintage of 2000) a few weeks ago and it was corked. Thankfully I got a spectacular experience with this 2000!
I was able to enjoy this next to a ‘96 Krug, 15 Henri Giraud and a few other great champagnes. Richly colored in the glass, almost gold like. Distinct aromatics of pencil shavings/sawmill dust, toffee, espresso, and lemon scone. Lots of depth and richness on the palate as expected, but it’s amazingly fresh. Nougat, more lemon pastry notes and plenty of creamy mousse at the finish. In fact, there were a lot of similarities to the ‘96 Krug, but less ginger and slightly less finesse driven. Absolutely delightful! — 5 years ago
BIG nose of honey, melon and wisteria flowers. Strong flavors of lychee, minerals, melon, spices and honey. Hint of sweetness. Lots going on in this white, but even though it is busy, it is well balanced. Pleasantly oxidized with a short finish. Memorable FLX Gewurtz.. — 7 years ago
Clear, deep ruby colour. Clean, pronounced red fruits and pepper on the nose. Dry, high acidity and tannins, with ripe plum, red cherries and heaps of pepper! Full-bodied with a very long finish. Very good quality.
Great accompaniment to the beautifully cooked, glazed fillet.

Mineral driven, almost gravelly, with some stone fruit and citrus. A bit lighter and less concentrated than some of Red Newt’s best, but still super refreshing and tasty! — 4 years ago
Definitely a fav. — 6 years ago
Unique rosé...floral on the nose. I worry there might be some sweetness but the dry bitter super cranberry in the mouth and finish brings it home. I love this winery... — 6 years ago
Dry. Beautiful. — 7 years ago
Absolutely interesting. Serve chilled. It has waves of complex notes. Starting with a nice fruit flavor. Almost no tannin/bitter note - so I see why people don’t love it. But I do - it’s an innovative take on the cab franc — 8 years ago
