Clean with creamy afterfeel, and the thinnest veil of peanut vaporous and undulating as the mask of the demoniac, entering the nose on tasting with caramel coffee and as spidery threads beneath the bitter, earthy toast of oaken bonds. Dark in soul and art. Best Chocolate Peanut butter beer I have had.

Ebon and inscrutable, lacing showing creamy curtain to cosmic shatter; coffee ice cream colored. Moist, rum raisin cake baking alongside Black Forest cake with walnuts. Heavy lavender in a rough cut oak crate, makes this smell really beautiful. Vanilla and caramel chocolates entice. Bakers dark unsweetened chocolate, tastes of aniseed, clove, nutmeg, peppercorn; the whole toasty barrel. Burnt fig, cinnamon, espresso bean, with a clear charred oak concealing allspice and malt, in line with its working spirit. Impressive beer, evoking coal and tar pits with its smoky, austere reimagining of dark vulcan arts. Not a sweet one, but fiery and thick on the edges of the cauldron. — 7 years ago

Fantastic quad. Great maltiness on the nose and palate, coupled with hints of bread yeast and a subtle sweetness. Served a bit too cold for starters, but as it warmed up the complexity became apparent. Much more interesting than a lot of quads, in my opinion, because the brewmaster seems to have dialed back on the sweetness just enough so that it’s not cloying. Really good beer. — 9 years ago

Dark as muddied apricot juice. Slick and unstable head whisking away in oily retreat, with rapid lacings of unraveling ghost smokes turning will-o-the-wisp. Apricot-pineapple with a sweet kerosene note. Bananas and Honeycomb cereal. Lime pith and soursop secondary smells. Plantains dried at medium ripeness, lemon pith, and tangerine threads on the palate. Connecticut tobacco leaf. Chalky lemon. There is such an interesting dichotomy between the malt caramel notes initially, and the overwhelming, cancelling pithy citrus, which obnubilates the former. Kumquat and starfruit combine on the finish with lemon tart candy and grapefruit reduction. .
