Brangayne Of Orange

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

Golden hue. Aromas of apple, dried fig, golden raisin, honey, orange zest, peach. Full body and high acid. Mouth-coating and creamy texture on palate, with a slight mineral finish that begs for refills. Rich, decadent and delicious. 90% Semillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc, 2% Muscadelle. — 14 days ago

More of a summer wine, but drinking great tonight. Also, if you’re a beer lover this wine might be for you. Cloudy, gold/orange color. You can smell the tartness on the nose, and if blindfolded might even think it’s a vibrant red. Sour fruit and wood on the palate. Medium plus depth and finish. Love the uniqueness and complexity!! — 3 months ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2018

Stunning example of this wine which i have been drinking since the 2009 vintage. Rose and intense dark cherry 🍒 on the nose. Touch volatility. Let this blow off. Very dense cherry, very burgundian, could be a 1er Cru NSG blind. But alas it has this E&M touch - black forest slope vines - and whole clusters which i am sure went into this wine. Wild oregano, orange peal, crushed marble. Can easily run for 3-5 more years. Plenty of tannins left. 2018 turns out to be a fabulous vintage for E&M. — 6 months ago

Baden Pinot Noir 2017

Tough vintage - might have been the worst in 10 years. Yet at 6 years this came around nice. I heard a lot of folks had concerns. Earth, bark, orange 🍊 rind, crushed marble, black currants, lime juice and a hint of cherry. So even this very basic version did quite well after 6 years. 12.5%. — 8 months ago

Château Coutet

Sauternes-Barsac Sémillon Blend 2017

Orange peel marmalade, apricot, spices?, tropical fruits (notably pineapple). Honey with subtle (Brazilian nut) nutty quality. Very faint hint of cheese. Rich, fairly complex, and lasting. Just lovely. — 2 months ago

Ben Ryé Passito di Pantelleria Zibibbo 2021

This white dessert wine has a most beautiful, rich-looking copper color. The nose is just as enticing, with big aromas of orange candy and dried apricots. The palate is a sheer delight. It is sweet enough to be dessert on its own, but has enough acidity to pair with your favorite after-dinner sweets or a selection of cheeses. It is pricy, but it is an experience that can be savored. — 5 months ago

Skin contact. Dry. Delicious. Aromatic. Such a great “young” orange wine. Plenty of legs on this. — 7 months ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

What a special treat!!! So enthralled by the moment that I forgot to take a photo with the dessert last night. 😜 This wine was stunning! Layered, complex, balanced. Pronounced and concentrated notes of dried apricot, peach preserves, marmalade, orange zest, Meyer lemon peel, citrus blossom, gardenia, cinnamon, cardamom, saffron, lavender honey, and beeswax. It coated the palate with a lasting finish. Again, such an absolute treat!! — 2 months ago

Happy New Year!🎈🎆🎊

This is a pairing I’ve been talking about doing for a decade but, couldn’t find a bakery to make one. So, I had to make it. The Sauternes is a 96. The pairing is a 10

Everything about the Sauternes is married in the pineapple upside down cake. Old school meets old school. Clemens the second best Sauternes producer after D’ Yquem.

At En Primeur in 2014, we spent a day in Sauternes & Barsac…eight Chateau’s and multiple vintages. We component tasted at Clemens. Great day. The highlight wasn’t D’Yquem, it was component tasting at Clemens. After eight Chateau’s, we went to Guiraud to taste 50 more Sauternes in an hour and then dinner. When we finished the 50 Sauternes, I wanted to go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning rather than have dinner I had so much RS in my mouth. Tasted nearly 2500 wines in 6 days.

This note is being written the next day with leftover Pineapple Upside down cake and 2003 Clemens.

This has a classic Sauternes nose of heather honey, marmalade, dry citrus and stone fruits with nuts with skin & waxy notes.

The palate is super thick, lush, waxy with ripe botrytis fruits of dry; pineapple, stone fruits. Orange-tangerine, lemon, lime, grapefruit citrus, marmalade, honey dripping, coconut shavings, nuts with skin, candied walnuts, saline, white spice, caramel, vanillin, wet marl, soft but strong edgy chalk, molasses notes, fruit blossoms, yellow lilies & flowers, spring white florals, excellent, very round acidity, balanced, excellent structure, well woven and smartly polished finish that lasts minutes.
