Belle Glos

Dairyman Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2022

Dairyman Vineyard sits in the southern alluvial plains of the Russian River Valley near the ocean, a region where cooling fog comes in through the Petaluma Gap in the morning and once again in the evening. Medium Ruby color, with aromas of berries, tea and spices. On the palate flavors of raspberry and tart black cherry with herb, cedar and cinnamon. Fine tannins, medium+ finish with lively acidity, good structure, ending with fruit and cedar spice. — 12 days ago

This is like wine candy and not in the way I normally refer to wine candy. In this case, fruity but a bit too sweet. This tastes like a higher brix pick than I prefer w/ my red burgundy. The sweetness does fade some after it long sets.

Black cherries, strawberries, raspberries with some blue fruit. Eucalyptus, a pungent herbaceous quality, dry top soil, dry limestone powder, fresh & used tobacco, dry leather, dry twig, pronounced barrel shavings, soft baking spices- strong clove, understated cinnamon, nutmeg & vanillin, some grilled meats, pepper, mid berry cola, dry river stone, nice red, dark, blue florals with violets, excellent acidity and a well knitted structure-tension, needs more time to be well balanced but elegant & polished long finish that lasts minutes and long sets on dry earth minerals & spice.

Maybe, better with a good long cellaring?

Well…a couple of things: 1) 2022 was a solar year and all about the fruit and 2) holy smokes that’s young for Clos de la Roche!

I have vintages of this that are 8 and 10 yrs in bottle that I haven’t considered opening. It was strangely much sweeter than I prefer. Not by a little bit, but a lot.

Blend of 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier, medium gold color, fine bubbles and mousse, aromas of fresh stone fruits, warm biscuits and hints of floral. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of white peaches, pineapple, pear and baked apple with hints of citrus zest. Long elegant finish ending with rich yeasty mineral character and a touch of smoky oak. Bring on the tuna tartare! — 2 months ago
