03 was historically hot & dry. Did Monprivato succeed despite these conditions?
Served the wine with the Vinloq System which allows nitrogen to be pulled into the bottle with pouring
👀Brown/orange mixed with red
👃Cherries, tobacco, tar & roses. Some stewed/dried fruit
👅Mature. Florals and fruit are present. Light. Could use more acid. Easy to drink. Balanced
Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my fridge
Nice aged notes. Savory. Okay precision. Tannins are good. Kept improving in the glass
👃Classic & beautiful with aged notes. Finally what I was hoping for👍
👅Drinking well. Cherry. Significant tar. Savory
Similar on the 3 days, but the nose was most beautiful on DAY 17
The pedigree was apparent here in this lovely barolo despite the vintage conditions. Balance was retained with enough precision to allow the Mascarello Monprivato personality to come through👏 — 10 days ago
Popped and poured; no formal notes. Please refer to @Antonio Galloni note for this wine from February in 2018. We’re now in 2022 and he absolutely nails it 💯. I’ve had this bottle in my cellar since release and it’s aging at a glacial pace. I literally have nothing to add. Bravo! — 3 days ago
Another solid vintage of this consistently great Barbaresco. This vintage seemed fuller and richer than many others. Beautiful nose of dried cherry, freshly turned soil, tobacco and tar. Touch of spice. Expressive pallet features dried cherry and raspberry, leather, black tea, balsamic vinegar. Hint of mint, orange and toasted nuts on the finish. Lively and fresh tasting. Solid value. Thank You Kasey and Petey! — 4 days ago
Transparent garnet red. Inviting nose of black cherry and ashen violet. Well structured, full palate yields black cherry, violets, terra cotta, and soft anise. Firm, velvety tannins. Medium plus acidity. Excellent Nebbiolo with depth and structure enough to satisfy your Barolo cravings with the Tuesday night meal. Beef, pasta, rustic stews, and other hearty red wine fare will be just as at home as the take-out pizza. Drink now through 2027. — 10 days ago
It’s either bottle variation or that the 2+ months of rest time has done this wonders. It was so different from the first bottle. This was all red berries, menthol, tobacco, and spice. Good energy, though the warmth does come through. Chewy tannins with a bittersweet finish, touched by some mineral and woody elements. Enjoyable, though I would have liked some floral notes. — 5 days ago
WOW!!! Beautiful ruby color with a bit of garnet around the rim. Beautiful aromas of black fruit, rose petals, vanilla and spices. Black cherry, plum, pepper spice fill the pallet. Touch of eucalyptus on the finish. Elegant and refined. Tannins are there but firmly in check. Outstanding! Thank you so much Kasey and Petey! — 4 days ago
Popped and poured. The 2014 “Castelletto” is garnet with an transparent core and very slight staining of the tears. On the nose, cherry lozenge, roses, dried green herbs, tomato leaf. On the palate, the wine is dry, high tannin, medium++ acid. On the palate, cherry candy, cherry raisin, dried earth and iron minerals. A little thin. Long finish. The nose is more interesting than the palate at this stage. I gotta wonder if time will be kind to the 2014 vintage? Anyway, fun to check in on. — 12 days ago
N: Big purple fruit, loamy, moist earth, charcoal, deep as if something is lurking there.
P: like a plush, bright, ball of northern Italy, fills your mouth. No tannins to speak of, a wee bit of grip on the finish. Very earth bound.w a ragú, terrific.
