Montevertine

Le Pergole Torte Sangiovese 2015

This declassified IGT varietal Sangiovese wine was an exceptional treat! Bright red fruit to accompany the tertiary aromas that abound. Varietal Sangiovese from Chianti Classico is an expression that is worth experiencing! — 20 days ago

Isole e Olena

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

Blend of about mostly Sangiovese with 3% Syrah & 15% Canaiolo Nero, aged in large oak casts. Deep Ruby red color with aromas of black and red fruit adding tobacco and herb pepper spice nuances. On the palate flavors of blackberries and cherries, savory with licorice notes. Fine tannins, full body, nice balance, long finish ending with herb and fruit mineral character. — 8 days ago

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

This sample was given to me. Tannins are resolved to the point of almost nonexistent. A fair amount of acid with what little fruit was dark and baked. Cherries leather and tobacco leaf. Darn yummy but I wish I had some food with it. — 18 days ago

Cepparello Toscana Sangiovese 2019

Opened about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 Cepparello pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe notes of Morello cherry, red flowers, black tea, a combination of cool and warm spices and dry, dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A beautiful Cepparello and although it’s quite young, it’s showing well in its relative youth! Drink now with some patience through 2044. — 15 days ago

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2021

2021 vintage. Medium-medium heavy body. Trademark voluptuousness/ blanket swaddling there in the early/mid going. Fell off on the finish with a bit of lingering tartness. Loved the 2016 and 2017. This is that but it ain't (all) that if you know what I mean. 3.25.26. — 18 days ago

One of my 3-4 BdM favorite producers. Haven’t tried any 20:ies vintages yet.

Castellare di Castellina

On the palate flavors of sour cherry, currant and raspberry with tobacco, baking spices and nutty notes. Fine rustic tannins, vivid acidity, medium finish ending with fruit and earthy spice. Good now and short-term age as well! — 18 days ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

Really tasty. Full bodied with medium acidity and medium/high tannins. Plums with hints of blueberry are joined by interesting herbal notes of thyme and sage. Also has a nice earthiness that veers into a touch of just-ground coffee beans accompanying the fruit and herbal flavors on the finish. Really good, and went well with meatball, ricotta, and mushroom pizza. — 2 days ago

@Dave I really enjoyed it. Looking to explore more CC. Didn’t have good experiences in the past with Chianti, but I didn’t know that classico was the subregion to get.

Of the other subregions, there are some really good producers of Chianti Rufina.

Deep ruby coloration. On the nose, dark berry, cassis, forest floor, minerals and earth, cherry, cocoa powder, plum and vanilla. On the palate, dark berry , blueberry, cherry, smokey vanilla, and secondary and tertiary notes of oak, espresso, and chocolate. Complex and excellent full bodied wine with velvet mouthfeel. — 9 days ago
