Tempranillo Blend

R. López de Heredia

Viña Cubillo Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2013

Another great vintage of a wonderfully consistent Rioja. Made from fruit of vines that average 40 years old. Lots of aging in advance of this wine’s release. (And it’s considered a Crianza?) Aromas of blackberry, leather and dried rose petals. Blackberry and Black cherry on the pallet with a hint of orange peel. Hint of wood smoke on the finish. Dusty tannins and nicely balanced acidity. Solid QPR. — 8 days ago

Urbina

Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2000

Marvelous 22-year old #rioja just shows how proper storage from a volume producer can yield so much enjoyment in a relatively inexpensive bottle. Opened and poured slightly cooled. Immediate bouquet much fresher than expected, crunchy red fruit, black tea, dried flowers. Acidity still vibrant on palate but red/black berry fruit was muted, as expected, but tannins had softened to a delicate texture. After 20-30 minutes in the glass the nose changed markedly with caramel, marzipan tertiary notes drifting out. Aged Rioja is an excellent flexible food-paring wine and proved ideal for a premium steakhouse experience.. Bacon-wrapped shrimp tasted delicious with this wine. — 5 days ago

Bodegas El Indiano

Hacienda El Indiano Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

Dark ruby colors with a generous nose of dried flowers, new leather, and old tobacco. A bit weaker than I hoped it would taste. Some dried citrus peel and dark berries. A touch of vanilla. Obscure spices. Ok structure, medium tannins. — 5 days ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 1967

From a nice old-looking bottle with a fill into the neck. Reddish tawny color. Bright fruit-forward nose. Notes of red fruit, spice, red flowers, mint and some moist forest earth. Great aromatics. Decent fruit remaining with nicely integrated tannins and great, balanced structure. This improved over the evening... quiet at first (despite 4+ hours of decanter time), but showed its stuff later on. — 16 days ago

12 Linajes Reserva Tempranillo 2012

This is excellent! It's nice to be able to buy a well-cellared wine. Cedar, spice, clove, and cherry tobacco nose. Medium weight, perfect medium acidity, medium plus alcohol. Spearmint starts to emerge at the end. Cherry dominates the finish which is long and well balanced with soft fully resolved tannins. The wine is ready now. Drink up and enjoy.

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2005

DAY 1
Served with the Vinlog System
👃Pretty pinot cherry flavors + cloves
👅The fruit is more dark. Earthy + tar. Midpalate is slightly thin. Some tannins that need time for resolution

Remaining wine was Slow Decanted in my fridge

DAY 11
👅Tannins are less than Day 1 but still noticeable. Purple fruit, earth & tar. Finishes nicely with fruit and licorice

I enjoyed this both days. Elegant and pretty but needs time to express itself and soften the tannins a bit. But I like it now and I love it’s potential🍷

Campo Cortijano

Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend

The label doesn’t say Tempranillo, just select red grapes. Was OK with our Thai dinner at a neighborhood restaurant. €13.50 on the wine list. The restaurant called it their “house wine”. I think the vintage is 2020 as that date is noted on a special Rioja sticker that has a serial number. — 3 days ago
