Sonoma County Chardonnay

Aubert

CIX Vineyards Chardonnay 2014

Ron R
9.5

One of the best Aubert’s we have tasted. We were worried about longevity - no such fear required.
Good depth on the nose, begins with roasted almonds, marzipan and meyer lemons. Palate is sharp, almost edgy. White stone fruits lead the way, followed by beeswax, and caramel. I guess the caramel is a leading indicator to consume these now.
@David L, thanks so much for sharing this great producer with us ✌🏾

My absolute pleasure. The new” Park Avenue “ vineyard release is coming on 7/8/21 . The vineyard is located next to CIX.

@John Van Trijp, you ask a great question. I’m going to correct that situation immediately. These wines would present much better in a larger stem.
@David L, I saw that. Hopefully, there will be a little left after the big dogs get first dibs 😏

Chalk Hill

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2019

Sea breezes and orchard fruit! A very delicious wine. Needs some air though — at first the high ABV is a little obvious. — 3 days ago

Peter Michael or Aubert? Not sure as the year and vineyard actually makes a difference BUT either will always be great. — 3 days ago

Balverne

Forever Wild Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2019

Notre Vue Estate Winery Balverne Russian River Valley Forever Wild Chardonnay 2019, California

Pale lemon in color with a green/ golden hue.

Nice nose of lemons, cedar, vanilla, toast, limes, grapefruits, honeysuckle, apples, honeydew, earth, minerals, sea salt and light river rocks.

Full bodied, buttery and smooth, with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with citrus, green apples, grapefruits, bitter herbs, spices, oak, vanilla, peppercorn, wet leaves and earth.

Nice tangy finish with almonds.

This is a very enjoyable Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Elegant, fruity and interesting.

Loved the nose here. Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime (20 minutes).

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses, crackers and olives.

100% Chardonnay grapes were aged for 5 months in French Oak barrels (20% new).

14.2% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$35.

Wifey’a back in the office (which could also be considered an orifice) pun intended. But she need not worry about her dinner…
This chard is just ok. One dimensional, lacks complexity. Expected much better from this winery.

Great product. Prior notes apply. Drinking beautifully now. Especially since I corrected my stems after @John Van Trijp made a good point. This is on the 92/93 bubble, so I’ll round up. Happy Father’s Day to all those dads out there! — 3 days ago

This is a phenomenal Chardonnay. Super well balanced, great fruit, absolutely lovely. My wife told me to buy three more cases. That may be my new rating scale. ;-) — 6 days ago
