Cowpunk

Organic Pet Nat Chardonnay 2021

A big thank you to Fourth Wave Wines for this sample of the 2021 Cowpunk Pet Nat Chardonnay.

It falls in the category of a natural wine. Plus it’s also organic and vegan friendly with no added preservatives. It’s from a single site and is small batch with a $30 price tag.

It looks like cloudy apple juice in the glass and pretty much smells like Granny Smith apples 🍏 too - super crisp and enticing. Alongside the juicy apples there’s some pretty florals and zesty citrus peel. Dry and delicious. Tastes great and love the packaging.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Little Wine #7 Syrah

Similar notes to 48 weeks ago. Raspberry and blackberry - red and black fruits. A blend of 4 vintages but 43% 2017. Also 2016, 2015 and 2012 - all good vintages in the Barossa. A note of dried herbs. As always the feature is the succulent supple silky tannins from the old vine fruit. Interestingly Fraser likes to enjoy the “Little Wines” in a year or two after release. — 11 days ago

Grange South Australia Shiraz 2004

Wonderful weight and meatiness. Needed plenty of time to unwind but such a nice ride once it did. Subtle spice with rich cab notes. Decanted and consumed over two nights. Was just as good if not better Day 2. — 3 days ago

Hunter Valley Sémillon 2020

Looking for a reasonable house wine ? No brainer . Floral , citrus and vibrant. I’m sure age would bring complexity. — 2 days ago

I had the pleasure of visiting this winery many years ago. Great choice, @Ira Schwartz

@Ron R If I had to guess, you had some aged semillon on that trip. 👍🏻

Hoffmann Dallwitz Syrah 2016

Purple!
This is extremely youthful. Ink, mint, resin, blackberries, black pepper and kalamata olives.
Lots of tannines, which are perfectly ripe and soft, Elegant and powerful, this is so promising, but needs at least three more years in the dungeon. Or 24hr in the decanter.
Truly beautiful, pure and graceful.

Grabbed a couple of bottles for a recent family reunion, were the first bottles emptied. Dark fruit - blackberries & plum, vanilla, smooth tannins. Hope I can find locally. — a month ago

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2016

Had this at Bern’s Steak house. Often referred to as “Baby Grange,” ‘16: blend of 51% Cab Sauv & 49% Shiraz, aged 12 months in American oak, partly in previous-vintage Grange casks. Dark Ruby with aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet and complex spice. On palate juicy blackberry flavors with notes of tobacco, cacao and toasty spices. Well balanced with acidity, fine ripe tannins, long finish ending with smoky spice, fruit & well integrated with oak, went well with my 19oz Strip Steak! — 14 days ago
