Mercurey, Côte Chalonnaise

Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Mercurey Chardonnay 2017

Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years, now sixth generation takes the reins. Pale lemon with aromas of stone fruits and floral spice. On the palate flavors of pear and fresh crisp apple with slight oak and honeysuckle notes. Long finish ending with fruit and mineral character. Very nice. — 13 days ago

Domaine Theulot Juillot

Les Combins 1er Cru Mercurey Pinot Noir 2016

Very 🍒. Morellos. So much in your face cherry on the 👃 and in the glass. Give it 1 hour to breathe it gains weight. Darker cherries. Tannins come back touch chalk. Hint of all spice on the back palate. Drink now not really a wine to put away for aging. At Juniper & Ivy in San Diego 1/2 bottle 68$. — 16 days ago

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2017

This wine totally surprised me- was way better than I expected. The wine has a nice opening - The body is nicely structured and the finish is wonderful and refreshing. This is a great all around sipper if you like acid forward with a vanilla dip at the end. — 6 days ago

Le Pierrier Mercurey Pinot Noir 2016

More primary and fruit forward than expected but that calmed some with air. Hold or decant if drinking now. — 13 days ago

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

Les Montots Mercurey Pinot Noir 2005

2020/8/25 with pork and crab gumbo. Forest floor and mushroom notes but also bright red berry fruit and lively acidity, simultaneously light and substantial. De Villaine is always, always lovely, and this bottle also reminded how well good Chalonnaise wine can age. — 3 hours ago

Domaine Joblot

L'Empreinte Givry 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

The 2016 L'Empreinte is the debut cuvée of Joblot's blended Givry premier crus. Wearied by all my bitter experience with buying wines in Malaysia, you can imagine my relief when it poured out bright and purple, and the smell of crushed cassis and spice wafted out of the bottle. In the glass, the nose adds intrigue with smokey, meaty aromas and a nice acetic lift. The wine is velvety, ripe and concentrated on the palate, framed by rather obvious wood still, with chewy tannins and lively acids. Finishes with medium length, dominated by plums and earth. Although it doesn't quite hit the spot for me, this was a solid pinot noir especially after a good number of weeks dry. Excellent value for those who like their Burgundy a little less subtle. — 9 days ago
