Clos La Coutale

Coutale Rosé Cahors Malbec 2020

2020 vintage. Relatively full-bodied for the type. Really ripe strawberries, stewed cherries, raspberry, bit of phenolic bitterness, lemon pith, rocks, little herbal thing going on. — 11 days ago

Château du Cayrou

Cahors Malbec Merlot 2015

Pure malbec aromas... red currant, red plum, some underlying earthy and herbaceous notes. A round body with soft acid and tannins but balancing tartness. Put a little chill on it!

Pierre Laplace

Madiran Tannat Blend 2013

Tannat (80%)/Cabernet Franc (20%) blend. Deep purple color. Dark black fruit aromas and flavors. Hints of smoke and oak. Just a bit of a green note but it incorporates beautifully. Nicely structured, as the Tannat was not over extracted. Tannins are present but not overly grippy. Alcohol is also reasonable at 13.5%. This wine has benefited from aging. 15 Ans d'Age Bas Armagnac

My favorite brandy house, but I’ve never tried this expression.

Nose: tropical fruits - papaya? Banana? Nuts - almonds, peanuts, peanut brittle. Intense baking spices - allspice, cinnamon, clove, black pepper. Salted caramel, toffee. Light roast coffee. Bitter chocolate. Boozy vanilla extract. Yum.

Taste: marvelous. A little lighter bodied than the 25 year (from what I recall), but all the same bitter chocolate and salty caramel and old varnished wood - and tobacco. And hot spices. And charred, caramelized orange? Yowzah. Top tier. I’ll have to directly compare to my 25 year and 30 years…but this is remarkable. 97.

Tres Potz Cahors Malbec 2000

Very dry… like English humour. But it finishes off with a nice earthy and nutty finish. If you like tannins and puckering your lips this is fantastic. — 18 days ago

Château Peyros

Greenwich .43N Madiran Tannat 2000

Deep almost black color, ruby, with slight orange shades. Advanced open nose, wood-smoked black fruits, graphite charcoal, tobacco, roasting. Mouth with dense but flexible tannic material. The breeding is perfectly melted and seems to be able to withstand another 5 or 10 years of aging without problems. A gourmet class wine at an affordable price.
