San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir 2015

If you follow me on Delectable, it’s no secret that I’m a fan of Hirsch. I usually like to let them age 8-10 years, but occasionally I open one sooner. Tonight was the first time I had checked in on the 2015 vintage. What a wonderful surprise. It had bright, crunchy red fruit on the palate, well balanced acidity, and a long, long finish that rolled over the tongue in eminently satisfying layers. The nose immediately leapt from the glass with both floral and earthy notes. Glad I opened this one. Will open another soon! — 9 days ago

Gran Reserva Maule Valley Carignan 2018

This inky wine has a slightly medicinal nose, with blackberry and tar notes. The tannins are forceful to a fault upon opening. Let it sit awhile and allow them to be less inflamed. The fruit is fairly forefront, possibly due to the aging of half the wine in concrete eggs. The savory finish is quite long and satisfying.

Reserve Unfiltered Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1991

Dark tawny, opaque. Not showing it’s age at all. Bright fruit forward nose. Notes of currants, violets, moist dark earth, ripe plum, some menthol and some hoisin sauce. Still full of vigor in the mouth. A bit of a dry finish is the only fault I have with this. Drink now and over next 10 years. — 25 days ago

Rorick Vineyard Muscat 2018

May I introduce you to the skills of professional wine person, Michael Cruse. He’s a wizard - people think of him first for his sparkling, but this deeply complex bone dry Muscat from the Rorick vineyard makes it’s way into five total freaking barrels and he’s selling it for about $29. This is an underpriced very good buy.

Ambitious, big, intense, and if you find some fault here I’d love to know what it is. Unfiltered colors of pale hay. Your first impression is definitely lychee, then peach, tangerine, vanilla oak.

Great dry Chardonnay. Balanced alcohol and acid. Medium acid. Medium- high alcohol. Slight peach aroma. Slight bitter finish but not to a fault. Very rich mouthfeel and thick texture. Good burgundy. — 12 days ago
