Popped and poured; enjoyed with dinner over the course of an hour. The 2018 “Les Romains” pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with “leesy” notes bright lemon-lime citrus with some melon and a mix of stony and ferrous minerals. One the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and satisfying; definitely the favorite at the table tonight. Lovely with a traditional seafood boil. Drink now through 2035.

Les Romains is a vineyard with its feet in flint to the east of the fault line in Sancerre. The 2020 Sancerre Les Romains begins with a fruity and open welcome, blossoming and silken in the mouth before tying the wine up; the flint influence acts like the belt on a pair of trousers tightening up the middle and leaving a sensation of sinew and length with a fine nettley fragrance. Beautiful wine - just couldn’t get to Sancerre with this. So ripe. Pear and melon and green mango. Most 2018 Sancerre’s lost their grassy edge.

Their dedication is evident in the beauty and expression of terroir in their wines. “Les Romains” is a single vineyard planted about 40 years ago on 100% Silex. Popped and poured; consumed over 2 days and it was delicious on both. In the glass, it appears a very pale straw color with medium viscosity. Medium+ intensity. Remarkably fresh with bright lemon-lime citrus with some melon and rocks. One the palate, silex, citrus and minerals with an uncanny steel-like texture. High acid. Long satisfying finish. An uncompromising blend of energy and elegance. It’s a wine you want to crush…but there’s a sophistication about it that makes you reflect on how damned good it is. Age-able? Undoubtedly! But it’s going to be hard to cellar something this good. Beautiful wine!

An ethereal wine that does not sacrifice depth or refreshment at the table. Just beautiful, especially day two. Knock out with steelhead trout and pistou.
